Beginner’s Go Game Set with Reversible Bamboo 13 x 13/9 x 9 Grid Go Board, Bowls, & Single Convex Melamine Stones

Bought this to take to our local Go Club for playing with beginners. The bamboo board is lovely, though there is a very slight marring on one etched board line on one side, but in the spirit, we simply choose to celebrate the imperfection. The plastic bowls have locking lids, making them great for travel or storage. the single-convex stones are durable and good-looking, and are great for beginners as they are easier to place on the board. The stones are a little big, and end up feeling a little cramped if used on a regulation sized 19x19 board, but overall this is a wonderful beginner set and is highly recommended.

I really like the bamboo board for this product! The lines are deep into the board rather than painted on, and the quality of it exceeded my expectations for this price range. Having both 13x13 and 9x9 sides is really useful as well for teaching new players. The bowls are designed to look like straw, and the lids have little notches on them so they can slide into the bowls and lock into position, which is nice for preventing the stones from spilling while traveling. So while the bowls have lots of functionality, they do feel cheap, as they are made of plastic. The same is true for the stones, which are made of melamine (high quality plastic), and are single convex. Single convex stones always feel wrong to me, but they get the job done. So the main thing you're paying for in this set is the board itself. Overall it's a great product for beginners and players that often teach others.

Hi quality, well constructed

I was mostly looking for a 9x9 board. I already have a 19x19 / 13x13 board, with stones and bowls, but wanted a 9x9 to play with my nephew.The boards are compatible, as they are both made of bamboo. This one is obviously smaller, but thats what I was looking for.The bowls are different. This came with a plastic bowel with interlocking lids. The other one is made of bamboo and needa a strap to prevent the lids from slipping during transport. It also cracked after a few years of owning it, wood glue helped. For practical use, these plastic ones may be better then the bamboo ones.The stones are also different. This are fancy plastic that is single convex. The other are nice yunzi stones that are double convex. While I will always prefer the yunzi ones, these plastics ones are better then I expected. These stones will not make you vommit like other plastics stones I have tried and will not get in the way of the playing experience.Overall, if you are looking to play some quick, inperson games of Go, this board will do.

Amazing quality, love colors and the size of the stones

The two-sided 9x9 and 13x13 layout board is great for those of us new to the game... much better than jumping directly into the traditional 19x19 board. Well constructed and designed, with "stones" that are flat on one side (more easily placed and that stay put). Game doesn't include any instructions, making it necessary to find/purchase an additional book or online tutorial (recommended). While concept of the Go game is simple, the rules and strategy can get quite complex. On one hand, easier to learn than chess, but on the other hand offers challenges equal to or greater.

The wood of this board is quite thick, and well-made. The stones feel great and we are having a great time learning how to play. Glad that I chose this set over the others that I was looking at.

im impressed the board desine was imprinted, and not printed on I can tell this set will last a wile, the cases for the piceses is a durable plastic and the desine is more in depth then i was thinking, the lids even twist to lock, nice, i just baught a 2nd one for a gift to a friend, looking fowerd to using this set to learn, and play go
