Never gets old.
Yes, I know that I've wrote this title on other reviews. Especially when I re-review a novel that I've already read many times before. This one, a part of the saga "Knight Miscellany", is my favourite of the whole series.I promise to read it again.Monica Beltrami. Montevideo, Uruguay.

One Night of Sin. A Review for The Blog Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy
One Night of Sin, A perfect name for the disreputable Knight Brother. Gaelen Foley tells a wicked story as she introduces us to an Alec Knight that not even his family knows. In Book 6 of the Knight Miscellany it would be easy to let some things slide as the family saga begins to wind down and yet, Ms Foley tells us a story about a unique individual struggling not to suffocate within his rather dysfunctional yet charming family.I will admit, in previous stories, I did not like Alec. I thought he was a selfish twit who used his family and took advantage of his friends. An indolent self absorbed pretty boy, whose claim to fame was dressing nicely and looking pretty. An addict who thinks only of himself and honestly doesn't see why that is wrong. Honestly, what was to like? I know way too many of these people why would I ever enjoy a story about one? And yet Ms Foley crafts a wonderful story about a man who sacrifices pieces of himself in order to keep those he loves happy...Alec Knight, youngest of the dashing Knight Miscellany, sinfully arrogant and decadently hedonist. He is at a point in his life where ennui is a way of life. The nightly drinking, wenching and gambling is slowly exacting it's toll. The only trouble is he has absolutely no idea how to change. He is the leader of his friends.. the one who defines what a London Rake about town is. Not quite acceptable but too well placed to be unacceptable. A likable chat with absolutely no substance..and that is exactly how the ton likes him.Life has not been all that good to Becky Ward. Her mother married "beneath" her and her grandfather disowned them. Once her beloved father died she became a ward of the horrid man.. left to rot in a moldering home on the edge of nowhere in one of the lesser family estates. Even that was better than the man who assumed guardianship after her grandfather died. Her wicked cousin, a man of such vile means and evil machinations, that Becky is determined to escape him and protect the small community that has become hers. Running for her very life she finally collapses on the doorstep of a town home.. where she is mistaken for one of the "ladies" coming to play that night.. Silly manboys.. this girl is special.Watching Alec step up to the plate and become the man he should have been was absolutely divine. Alec is so determined to protect Becky that he takes on his worst fear and conquers it.. He also learns that there are those that have his back no matter what. He learns that yes he can be a man and stand on his own but also that there is no shame in asking for help when something important is on the line.Becky is the perfect foil for Alec, she is a woman who refuses to just life pass by.. She by nature must do all she can to fix her world. So when she is put in the position of needing to learn to lean on someone else instead of doing it herself she has to find a way to accept that.. and the man she slowly falls in love with. The man who has been hiding beneath the glamour. Becky understands Alec's dreams and sees how what others have done that helped make him the man others see and the real man.Because Alec was my least favorite Knight, in many ways this book rises to the top of the series..Again my friends, this series is worth the time.. check it outShauni

4.5
This is the third book in the series that I have read. I enjoyed reading it. I gave it 4.5 for the intricate and awesome plot. The missing .5 is due to some parts of the book made me want to skip the more descriptive pages. Maybe it is my haste to get to the heart of the action.Becky, the heroine, is the ideal heroine. Strong where and when it counts, sometimes a damsel in distress (because really every hero needs a damsel in distress once in a while), smart, grounded and has an understanding of human nature hence she is able to embrace the whole of Alec, the hero. When Alec met the innocent/virginal heroine, he thought she was a prostitute. Circumstances revealed to him the danger and threat to Beckyβs life so Alec took it upon himself to save her. That is the action/adventure part of the book - the process of Alec physically doing the small and big battles to save Becky. The love story unfolded when Becky ended up saving Alec from the burden of his past by offering her unconditional love. So we have two people in need of each other on different levels and they ended up being a perfect fit. The plot captivates and entertains. Given the title, yes there are lovemaking scenes. So if you want an entirely clean romance then this may not be for you. Do know that the plot of the book overshadows the sexy parts.I will be trying another book from this series.

All in all a very good read!
Alec was quite a rake - I mean being a kept man is probably reacing the very bottom even during the Regency period. I was really angry with Alec when he tried to interfere with Lizzie and Devlin because I loved them as a couple so much. I don't think I truly understood how low Alec's life was until this book - he was not the usual rake still able to live a high life - he was rock bottom broke and seemed to be in more than just a minor funk - enter Becky and it is true - sometime real love can in fact turn a rake around. When Alec meets Becky, his life has purpose, he has a chance to be a hero, to really be needed. It was wonderful watching their love bloom - I mean he was fascinated by Becky - just everything about her made him happy. The love scenes in this book sizzled - this couple truly had chemistry!!! It was great to see Lady Champion finally get her just due - she was beyond annoying. Enjoyed too Alec's friends - they could have books of their own. Would have enjoyed a little more of Alec's family at the end - those reunions are special in these series books - and Alec really had missed his family. All in all this was a super book - those who like Foely will not be disappointed!
