Ok, next time people warn you something is HUGE, take it seriously...
Can't blame anyone but myself. Saw someone in a local plant group saying she underestimated the size of this bag, and we all had a laugh about it. I guess I somehow forgot about that post when I purchased this. When they say huge they mean huge! Here is the size of the bed next to my full grown basset hounds for scale. I guess I will try to resell some smaller portions, but the rest I think I can put to good use eventually, it will just take a while. That is even with hundreds of plants (I am propagating, repotting, and selling all the time). I guess I can't complain about MORE rather than less. It's a great value for your money, especially if you have a couple of planty friends to split with. The quality of the perlite seems good, and I think the size is appropriate for what I need it for, which is chunkifying denser soil for aroids, and semi-hydroponic growing.

Got it at a great deal.
I saw this selling for $30 and jumped at the chance. Great price! I didn’t realize that this was size 3, meaning that the perlite chunks were about 0.5 inch in size. I was expecting the tiny grain-sized ones you normally see in many big box stores. So it was a nice surprise when I saw how chunky it is. The chunkiness is a good thing. Size 3 is the perfect size for my garden bed and I am glad that it is not the smaller sized ones I was expecting as those often blow away with the wind or float of they are on the surface. This 0.5 inch perlite pieces might be too chunky for me to use in a soil mix for germinating seeds so I might crush it further if I need something finer. But this gravel sized perlite is perfect for most of my gardening needs.. I will be using the bulk of it for a raised bed I am preparing for spring next year. The bag was also much heavier than I was expecting. Wonderful perlite! Good quality. Great deal.

Perfect for my needs to amend my Texas soil
This product worked exactly as I needed It was like mixing styrofoam into the dirt nice and white and made the direct like it was spongy and crunchy I did use a 30% vermiculite 30% Coco core and 40% to the grow row that I dug in my front yard with the electric rototiller This greatly improved the soil texture so instead of being concrete after I watered it and muddy it was actually spongy and I could pack it like a snowball and the little spongy dirt balls This was very nice because normally my dirt will just mud out as soon as I hit it with water and then it'll crack as it dries so this amendment was exactly what I was looking for It was a number four sizeand there was very little dust in the package that I received your results might vary based on what I received This was exactly what I was looking for and I would have to recommend it again and I'll probably be buying some more to do another row It was very light fluffy and felt like I was working with Styrofoam peanuts.

THE BEST PERLITE EVER!!
I’ve tried about 10 various brands of perlite, and they always end up being small, and the bags come half filled with dust. I’ve looked at Mother Earth brand several times but always opted not to get it because of the price. After my last perlite purchase, I was fed up. I did some research and kept seeing Mother Earth perlite mentioned as the best. I wanted the #4 but it’s never in stock so I finally snagged a bag of the #3. This is seriously the best perlite, hands down! The #3 is actually the perfect size for me. As far as cost goes, the bag is MASSIVE! And I mean MASSIVE! This bag should last me at least a year, if not more. If you’re like me and you keep buying different brands, trying to find one that’s course and more perlite than dust, this is the one!!

Just what I was looking for!
I've been on a search perlite that had some substance and not the powdery stuff you'd normally find in big box stores. Several times I'd get something because I was told by the associate that it was larger pieces, only to get it home and find that it was not. So I landed here searching and thanks to several reviews I choose to give this one a try. It did not disappoint. The bag is HUGE and the #3 is exactly what I was looking for. I'm sure my plants are going to love it. My bag was not completely sealed and therefore had some spillage in and outside of the box (filled two 1 gallon ziploc bags), the delivery person said there was enough in her truck to possibly fill a grocery bag. She did offer to let us scoop it up but unfortunately I was not home at time of delivery and my husband couldn't because of a disability. Overall I am happy with the purchase just a little disappointed in the shipping. If you are looking for the larger size perlite Mother Earth is it!

Much better than big box stores
My only other experience with perlite is from a big box store and that stuff might as well be dust compared to this. The pieces are nice and large which are doing a much better job at aerating and draining the soil. I do see some dust at the bottom of the bag but that's expected and not a big deal at all. It's definitely too pricey for me to fill a raised bed but it's perfect for my potting mix and should last me years.

Worth it
If you are a houseplant person and have repeatedly bought dusty perlite from bb stores and don't know why plant people say perlite is so great, you'll see why after using this. I don't worry as much about root rot the right amount in your mix will aerate, and the pieces are so large it's going to take longer to breakdown or crumble. The bag is huge around 4.5 - 5 ft tall maybe, so keep that in mind if space is limited. Its seems expensive but really for the amount in the bag compared to regular sized perlite in a store it's around the same price per pound or cu ft. Or whatever math I did to justify spending more money on plant things.

We are very happy to be able to find this product in a large quantity. We were unable to buy it in large quantity where we used to purchase it. It is used to mix with cement to make the cement go further for a table that cuts granite and Quartz on it with a saw. The table needs to be redone every 3 months or so and we are happy to have found that we are able to buy it here.

If you’re like me and you don’t like the small perlite because it basically crumbles to dust and sand in mixes, as well as slips through other materials in the mix and raises to the top, then; this is definitely the better perlite choice. I use it in soil and sphagnum moss mixes with coco bark and they pair together to make a nice chunky, aerated mix. Also, it’s easier to rinse the dust off because of how big it is

Have been looking for coarse perlite for a long time, but unable to find this locally. I'm sure the description said 1/2 " size and it is definitely smaller, but for my needs in houseplants it will be great. I separated it into smaller bags so I can share with friends and it was not too bad as far as dust. It seemed pretty expensive, but it worked out to aprox. 24 cents a cup ( total of 288 cups) so probably cheaper than buying in small quantities. I'd reccomend it but would order size 4 for outdoor use.

At least 3 feet high. It is a coarser grain. But as you mix it in with your potting soil and manure it does break down a bit. Great value for the amount you get. In Canada you pay $11 for 9 litres. 4 cu ft works out to 113 litres. Would be $138 to buy at the store in 9 litre bags. So even if its a bit coarser one can break it down smaller for their needs. Great purchase!
