Not Best for Dough Starter - get WECK 743 instead
This jar is very nice, but not well suited to growing sour dough starter. This is because the top slopes inward to form the neck of the bottle. Dough gets stuck in those upper inner ‘ shoulders ‘ rather than being in the bottom of the jar where you want it to be.For sour dough starter, I recommend this jar instead : WECK 743 – 3/4 Liter Mold Jar

Nice jar but a few issues...
Bought this jar to use for sourdough starter. It does function adequately for the task, but there are better products out there for the money. The steel rim that holds the jar lid collects rust dimples if you put this in the dishwasher. It actually will corrode overnight and you'll have to scrub off the white flakes that accumulate. The neck of the jar isn't ideal for moving starter in and out frequently. As someone else said, consider buying a jar that has a side walls without a bottle neck where the lid is clamped down.On the upside, it looks very pretty and the quality of the glass and gasket is high. But the metal wire leaves a lot to be desired, and unfortunately, it's not replaceable. For the money, consider other options if you're planning to use for sourdough. For dried goods that you rarely need to wash the jar, this would be a nice option.

Very useful for dehydrated vegetables from garden
I have been using the Bormioli Rocco Fido jars for over a year to store dehydrated peppers, tomatoes, and herbs from my garden from the 2015 and 2016 summer/fall seasons. Because of the attractive design, I do not hesitate to keep some jars on the kitchen counter. These glass jars with the gaskets work better for storage than plastic in terms of no absorption of smells caused by plastic, longer storage retention, less risk of spoilage and contamination, increased ease in labeling the jars and identifying contents, and overall attractiveness. I have various sizes with a few different color lids. I use wine glass markers to label the jars with the contents and produce year. The markings easily wash off when I want to re-use the jar for a different produce. This system works for me and keeps my dehydrated produce fresh and organized for easy access.

The jar broke while stirring the contents.
This is a beautiful jar. I purchased it to store my sourdough starter in. After two weeks it broke as I was simply stirring my starter with a silicone spatula. Hopefully this was just a manufacturing defect. I will see how the company responds.
