CompTIA Security+ Certification Kit: Exam SY0-601

Pro: No fluff. Technical and thorough information. Very informative and important "call outs" or special notes in each chapter. Comprehensive chapter quizzes with questions similar to actual exam. Books updated for each new version of exam.Con: "10% off" coupon thru Wiley Test Prep did not work. Some concepts a bit difficult to understand at first glance.Was a first-time "go" on earlier version of Sec+ exam after reading & studying Sybex book in '16.Life got in the way and it cert expired in '22. Took about a month to read the new book, do the chapter quizzes (and re-read/re-quiz as necessary) before successfully taking exam again. Practice Test book is nice but not needed by everyone.What worked for me: Understand the concepts. Study the book until you can score at least 85% on chapter exams. Testing strategy is important. Use the "flag" option for questions with unsure answers. Skip the situational test questions and come back to them to avoid getting bogged down and losing precious time. Once last question is answered, use tally sheet to jump back to flagged and unanswered questions. Leave about 15 minutes at the end for the situational questions. They can be poorly worded, confusing and often are not intuitive. Taking extra time to figure them out results in running out of time.Good luck.

I read this book and did the practice problems as I went. I also watched videos, make sure to use the flashcards that come with the voucher you get with this. Oh, and this gets you money off the real exam. That is so cool. I passed the latest Sec+ with just this and videos, and a little real work experience. This is relevant information for the exam 100%.

Was exactly what I was looking for

The layout and content of the study guide is fantastic. The content is also fantastic! The explanations included in the 'answers' sections of the practice tests are insanely helpful! Unfortunately, the many formatting errors make the book difficult to follow at times. Here are (a few) examples.Page 104, (picture shared), typos in the math. ["1" is incorrectly typed at "11" two different times]Page 242, says biometric tech assessment is based on "four major measures." The first two are explicitly highlighted and outlined (e.g. "the first type is...," "the second type is...). The second two are not and must be inferred.Page 266, says "clustered systems" were discussed earlier in the chapter. They are not actually discussed earlier in the chapter (perhaps they are, but "clustered systems" is not used in the discussion).Page 566, Explanation to question #6 has a period in the middle of a sentence.Formatting issues like these have made it quite difficult to focus on the material, and caused me to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what's what, flipping between pages, etc.

A combination of this study tool, Mike Chapple's LinkedIn Learning prep course and a lot of study time helped me to pass the course on the first try. I recommend combining a couple of resources to make sure you have all angles covered.

I really like this book only on the third chapter but I find the way it presents the material to be effective and it provides links to more in depth resources. Not a bad way to start getting certified and a good general all purpose primer on the subject.That said, I think it is important to go beyond certification too.But for an all around introduction and exam prep these are great.

A very good buy for anyone wishing to prepare for the exam.

The book is well explained in every topic and it has a brief summary at the end of the chapter with a quick test that you help you to know if you are good to go or you need to review something

Came quickly, in perfect condition. I'd bought this not knowing whether I'd actually want to pursue certification and I haven't read it yet, but from the contents it looks like it covers so many of the questions I've been having in my quest to learn how to build useful and secure systems without being too intimidatingly technical. Very excited to dive in!

Arrived today (ordered yesterday), so delivery was extremely fast (UK->Norway in less than 24h!).From a first glance the material is presented in a logical manner, and the questions in the practice tests are grouped in a sensible manner with good explanations on the answers so that you understand why it is the correct answer and no just simply presented the correct answer.
