I sew and collect vintage clothing and this book is amazing. It’s not super in depth, but the information in it is very well researched and gives a good background of major designers of each era. There’s so many great details - like that early sequins were frequently made from gelatin and shouldn’t be washed! It’s an excellent book for veteran vintage collectors and a must have for anyone just starting to be interested in vintage clothing.

Although this book is clearly intended for women who are interested in buying high-end vintage fashions and want to know what to look for, it's actually a history of 20th century fashion, from the pre-World War I era to the eighties. The author not only explains who the top designers were during each decade and what their signature styles were, she also lists all the major trends and illustrates how the political and social background of each era influenced fashions. It's beautifully illustrated throughout, with photographs of vintage pieces as well as reproductions of advertisements and magazine photographs.

Great overview of every decade, good examples, good quality illustrations and photographs. Very useful for someone like me, who doesn't know much about vintage fashion:)

This book is pretty and contains a lot of information. But I don't know why the book has some scratches.

Lovely book until you get to the 1960s.

I bought this for my wife and she absolutely loved it.She's not in the fashion industry but loves fashion, the history and art of it and also the inspiration behind it. This is packed with information on the styles through the years not to mention the images which are stunning.Great for a read through, great a flick through of images.

I have tones of vintage books but i found this book to be very detailed in information. I can only recommend. Thanks
