Might as well have been made of popsickle sticks. Fell apart in days.
Apparently it cannot handle the weight of normal sized books. It collapsed within days of assembly. Irreparable, almost impossible to return. Do not buy. All that money up in smoke.

DO NOT USE -- Unit sways from side to side dangerously -- KEEP AWAY FROM KIDS
This looks nice, but once the shelving units are out of the box and the shelves are unfolded, they're completely unstable. I mounted one set of shelves on top of the other as you are supposed to be able to do (the shelves have holes and pins to do that). But now the two units sway a full two inches from side to side. Do you want your bookcase swaying every time you bump into it? I don't. Plus, one of the shelf rests on one side is a full half inch lower than the one on the other side. So that shelf is not level, and it moves up and down on the bad side.I have similar folding shelves that are very sturdy and do not rock, so I thought these would be stable, too. My mistake. The main problem is that each unit requires a diagonal brace in the back (or a back panel) to keep the unit from rocking back and forth dangerously, but nothing like this is included. A horizontal piece of wood does not stop shelves from rocking back and forth. Heavy books will NOT stabilize these shelves but make them rock even more dangerously from side to side.I may try to attach a heavy wire diagonally (with a turnbuckle) to keep them from swaying. No customer should have to do this. Please, please keep these shelves away from children or they will fall on top of them. The shelves must be attached to the wall to be safe. And do not load them with heavy books or you risk them swaying and collapsing. In earthquake country where I live, these units are very unsafe. You cannot make a weakly constructed bookcase safe unless you rebuild it. This unit should not be sold as it's dangerously weak.

Should have believed the bad reviews - Save your money!
Should have believed the negative reviews. I own 8 of these I've owned for over a decade now that are made of the hardwood "rubber wood" and have never had a problem with them, even fully loaded with heavy textbooks. Ordered these from Amazon Warehouse as "used very good" with no cosmetic damage, just new packaging. Seriously? Pulled the bookshelf out of the box already assembled and the 3 shelves fell off - no joke. The right side of the unit had warped wood and the shelves themselves were split where the metal hardware joins them to the frame. These a several drill holes where you can see the manufacturer attempted to rebuild these - unsuccessfully. I have a full woodworking shop and I wouldn't even consider wasting my time to repair these. The wood itself is lightweight and junk - not solid enough to work with. UPS return pickup for these!

Sways side-to-side, almost falls over
I bought two of these bookshelves, to stack one on top of the other and load them up with books.Unfortunately, these shelves are not very stable. The shelves themselves (the horizontal boards) are not firmly attached to the vertical supports, allowing the vertical supports to move sideways. Just the force of adding or removing a single book from the bookshelf is enough to cause the entire bookshelf to tip over. It has not fallen down yet, but I am afraid it will soon.If you deliberately place the bookshelf just right, it will stand up straight, but the slightest motion is enough to cause the whole edifice to sway and tilt. See the attached picture.I am buying new bookshelves to replace these ones.

Perfectly usable, but flimsier than the pricier options
I bought something very similar to this at The Container Store that cost twice as much. It looked the same and I was hoping for it to actually be the same. It isn't. It is clearly flimsier. But I still gave it four stars because it is perfectly usable and with only costing half as much it would be preferable to lots of folks who don't want to spend the money. I am going to keep it because I actually got it on sale and it is a pain to return it. But I will probably go for the expensive ones if I need any more-simply because it is worth it if it is something that you expect to use for many years.I don't expect to lose my love of books so i will need space for several years.I changed my review to 1 star because it was so flimsy I ended up tossing it.

Very disappointed. Not sturdy or stable. Wobbly.
I was so disappointed with this product. I had 4 of these I bought ten years ago (same company) and loved them. They were beautifully made, sturdy AND stable. Each board fit perfectly and snug without any gaps when unfolded. Was expecting the same in 2021, but now they are just not putting in the workmanship. The one I just received had gaps, digs, and one rotating hinge that was 3/4 of an inch away from end of shelf due to curved inward cut of board. Someone was drunk when the wood was cut. Hoping it does not fall off hinge pin when I add stuff on it.Kept for light stuff due to hassle sending it back. I wish I did NOT give the others away when I moved a couple years ago. Buyer beware. They just don't make stuff like they use to.Update: Corner shelf stands are still made really well though. Maybe I just got screwed with this one bookcase.

High quality! Love that they fold down flat!
I have three of these bookshelves in my classroom. I love how they come together, and the fact that they fold down flat. That is very helpful if you have to switch classrooms! (Ugh!) They are very sturdy wood, so definitely worth the price! The picture I have is from when I only had two sets. I now have a third, but do not have a new picture. But you can see how nice they are from the picture! Definitely recommend! They hold a ton of books!

Bad Design a Recipe for Catastrophe
Beautiful bookshelves. They match all of the other folding bookshelves in our house. The ones that are over a decade old and still working great, unlike these POORLY DESIGNED disasters, which just collapsed. One wouldn't expect a shelf built for books—with books on it—to bend sidewise and die, but it turns out that there's a fundamental structural issue with these units. See, normal folding bookshelves use screws to connect the cross supports. (I just checked.) THESE use weak metal staples. The strain put on the unit when one puts books on it was enough to weaken the support and send it crashing down. Compared to folding bookshelves from other brands, this manufacturer clearly chose the fastest, cheapest route.Do not buy. For the same price you can get units from other manufacturers that will last for ten years without incident. These lasted for a couple of months. I'm thrilled that they didn't just fall on my child. So thanks for that, I guess.

Nice bookcase
Nice bookcase. I’m actually using this as a catchall stand in my kitchen. It is sturdy, has three good size shelves and is just right for the spot I have it in. I would recommend this as a multipurpose piece of furniture. I have the little corner shelf as well and it is great too. The finish on it is very nice and it goes together instantly without any hassles.

Easiest Set-up
Basically, you just open sides and fold down the three shelves that fit into place and you're ready to use the shelving unit. It's a bit wobbly. I have a similar 5 shelf unit that seems sturdier. Also, it doesn't seem to have any finish; it's like unvarnished pine... so I'll have to see how it ages.

Lightweight, Easy to Move and Sturdy!
I wanted something sturdy but easy to move and fairly light. This shelf is perfect! I ordered two and stacked them - I get 12 inches height between shelves, which fits most of my books.

Wobbly due to poor construction
Very Wobbly. Not very well put together. A good push and this will fall apart. I have one that looks very similar but much better materials and construction. Looks can be deceiving.
