Making Dreams Real
Inspirational, life-affirming A Black Woman Did That is a terrific read for young kids. Author Malaika Adero has written stories of a nice mix of women: contemporary women, historical figures, women in the sciences, arts, broadcasting and entertainment, business, sports and political life. This is a perfect opportunity to expose young readers to “women who did more than people expected of them and more than they imagined for themselves.”The narratives have an intimate feel, inviting readers to get to know these women. Engaging and fun illustrations and abundant pullout quotes contribute to the book’s appeal. I gave my first copy to a 12-year-old girl who, when she realized the inside was as colorful and inviting as the cover, began reading right then!

Great graphics, fun read.
I bought this for my daughters, (late teens) but is great for any age group. I will be sending a copy to my six year old niece too. The stories are short, just a few paragraphs, but it is a good read. I love that the author took the time to compile these stories in one book. It is easy to ready for about 4th graders on up, but younger readers can be successful readers with a little help.

Fresh look at Black Achievement!
This was a great way to get my children and their friends out of the rut of knowing the 7 or 8 most well known Black Achievers and learn some new powerful Black minds - and contemporary ones at that, This is my best book buy in years.
