Great gift!
Bought as a present for a family member and got this in response -Thank you so much for the Eco Gardening book, what an innovative presentation of the amazing diverse nature of soil which never ceases to surprise me.Huge hit! So much so I’ve now bought my own copy too - the photos make it really accessible and it’s clear that the writer not only knows his stuff but is passionate about helping us to know it too! 100% recommend!

Made me think
This book is easy to read and compelling. I’ve been gardening for years but it’s made me think about how I garden: the importance of a closed loop, composting, careful curation of the soil. It’s really inspired me and given me plenty of food for thought and I can’t think of a better endorsement than that. Highly recommend.

With a few simple changes we can garden ecologically.
This book is a brilliant read for beginners and more experienced gardeners. It shows that with a few simple steps we can all garden ecologically. Photos and instructions are clear and goes to prove you don’t have to spend the earth to save the earth! Highly recommended.

The ecological gardener
This is an inspiring book, a well written and informative guide to creating a garden which benefits the soil, plants, and wildlife in general. Ultimately this also benefits us and the planet. A thoroughly good read.

A decent introductory idea generator
First, I was quite a ways into this book before I realized it was about the UK, not the US. There are at least a few plants mentioned here that I believe are now considered invasive species in the US. Also a few things should be considered for health toxicity. I would. not advise using tires or telephone poles, for example, both leech far too much. The ideas presented are good and important for all of us to be thinking about more, and pull from many important facets including permaculture, but I didn’t always find them compelling and certainly not revolutionary.I am not a novice and am already well schooled in nearly all of these ideas, so maybe it would read differently to a new gardener? I wondered though if the projects presented, in their conciseness may have been overly simplified and think many would require additional resources- which is fine, but I don’t really think should be seen as an exhaustive guidebook. It skirted several genres and I think I would have liked more elaborate pictures or more memoir or experiential elaboration and more specific science on specific species interactions.

Applies to climates primarily in Great Britain
I read the book. There are good things to apply anywhere but not very useful for California and western states on the whole.
