What is your experience on how waterproof it is? I need to be in a stream for several hours a day for a week's time.

Not waterproof and the color bleeds in the rain. I used it for hikes in October 3022 and it ruined my new raincoat.

Does anyone know if this is acceptable for carry on if it is fully loaded?

I believe a regular sized laptop would fit inside. Yes, there are compartments inside. I bought the backpack because of the waterproof section where I can store a wet swimsuit or keep my camera/phone dry when I am boating or in very humid conditions. I can place a frozen gel-pack in the waterproof compartment to keep a drink or a snack cold. The laptop will not fit in the waterproof compartment but it will fit in one of the larger compartments. I also like the way the backpack folds up small when not in use. I pack in my carry on luggage when I travel.
