It should hold the refill case, though I not have one to test with. **Q: What's your vote on the better case? The zippered case or the wooden case?** A: I just received the new X-Acto kit, and the zippered case is great. Everything snaps in and stays put, you can drop it, throw it in a backpack or whatever, without a worry. I prefer it over the wooden case kit I had when I was a kid, so I can only assume that it's better than the faux-wood/plastic wood case option that is also available today. I recommend the zippered case. **Q: How well does the case hold the blades?** A: This case works very well. I had one of the original wooden cases many years ago and found it to be much less useful than this portable case. This is a knock-off. *by D***A on 12 January 2023* The case quality is very low, material is sticking out, hot glue is visible. One blade had a manufacturing defect and does not fit into the slot. Logo is slightly different from the official one (handles, case, instructions) -- horizontal stroke in the letter A should resemble the blade, here it is just a regular A. Logos printed on handles of the tools are all fuzzy and unclear, thick uneven lines. Embossing on blades is in different font.
