Keeps coffee VERY hot. Looks good and functions very well.
The 1-litre carafe is just about perfect for my needs. I prefer to brew my own coffee at work using the commercial coffee machine in our kitchen and my own coffee beans. This carafe holds more than enough coffee to satisfy me (and possibly another person too). It keeps the coffee at freshly-brewed temperature for amost 3 hours. It starts tapering off from there, but it doesn't even approach "warm" until at least 4 hours. (No kidding).I always preheat the pot by pouring in hot water for a minute or two before pouring in the coffee. Cleanup is easy: pour and rinse. The spout doesn't leak. The quality of the workmanship seems very good. I think this will last 5-10 years minimum, which is how I justify the premium price.

Keeps tea hot for 8 hours
I fill this with boiling hot water, let it sit for 10 min, empty and refill with fresh hot water and 1 tea bag. Great for tea later in the day, or after dinner. The lid seals effectively and pours without dripping.

Gold color, gold standard
You're simply not going to find a better insulated carafe than this one. It's easy to dissasemble and clean. It keeps hot drinks wonderfully hot. Sure, it's more expensive than lots of others but you're getting the superior product in its class.

Things to consider
After finding out that my at home coffee drinking habits were costing me about $30 of electric utility bill a month, I decided to try to do something. Purchased a $20 carafe that worked well during winter (house kept about 75 Fahrenheit) and coffee staying warm for 4 hours, but summer came and AC running to 77 Fahrenheit kept dropping the coffee temperature to luke warm in 2 hours. I was not happy. My electric bill did dropped, just needed to extend that coffee temperature.Had some Zojirushi travel mugs that are amazing (coffee will stay hot for 12 hours and luke warm 18 hours later), so wondered if they made larger products. Took me a while to find this item. Initially it's price had me stop for a moment, read the reviews and hesitated for a few days. After convincing myself I made the purchase, I usually spend 3 days at home during the week, so saving on electric consumption was a sound reason to buy it . So far I cannot complain, lid works good, dispenser is slow, but that's better than accidental burns over rushing and splitting coffee. As of date of review, coffee stays hot for 6 hours, and luke warm for about 2 more hours. Usually I drink coffee faster than that, so it took me several days to notice for how long it stayed warm.Price is not bad if you are using it often. So far my electric utility bill is down $30-35 a month from last years same month, even when every electric company is charging more per kwh, so this item pay itself up in 2 months, 3 if you consider the first carafe that failed. Always try cheapest one and if that fails for your wants/needs then try a better product, if you are willing to spend more.

Update: Still fantastic after three years!
I really love this carafe. I work at home, and I make coffee in the morning, pouring and sipping throughout the day (I also love my Contigo travel cup, for which I've already posted glowing reviews). This carafe keeps the coffee hot ALL day (recommend filling with hot water first to warm it up). And the second-most-important thing is that it does not drip, nor does it make a steam-escape noise.For the past few years I've been using the Thermos stainless steel carafe. It worked well at keeping the coffee hot, but was prone to drips--especially when removing the lid. It also made a very annoying hissing sound all day long, which opening the lever helped only for moments before starting again (I even replaced the lid to see if that was the problem--it happened even with a new lid).I ordered the larger (and cheaper) Cresimo carafe as a replacement (nice because my new coffee maker is 14-cups, which the Cresimo would hold), but it was unacceptably messy, dripping after every pour. I returned that. I thought I would give this one a shot because even though my Thermos carafe still served the basic purpose, it too was messy and that NOISE thing.I've had this for several days now and really like it. To me, it's worth the money to have silence and a no-drip experience. Pricy, but worth it, IMOUPDATE: Just a quick update. It's been three years since purchase, and I use this on a daily basis. By keeping my coffee hot and fresh all day, I find I drink fewer cups over the course of the day and waste less coffee. I fill this carafe every day around 7 am after the coffee is brewed and if there's any left by 5-6 pm, it's still fairly hot. Couldn't be happier with this product.

A FANTASTIC CARAFE!!!
LOVED this product from the first time I used it, & now … over TWO YEARS LATER … it is STILL, BY FAR the BEST carafe I have ever used in the last 40 years!!! First off, it IS pleasing to the eye. But it's ease & effective functionality are what pleases me the most. Because of the design of it's body, it keeps coffee HOT for much longer than any other carafe I've purchased, AND it is SOOO easy to use: the top comes off in one simple move & pour coffee into the pot, which is large enough of an opening to make THAT an EASY pour, as well as the fact that once you easily get it IN the pot, it's also easy to pour.My 20 yr old GRANDson calls me "the connoisseur of Everything", I LUV buying those things that are genuinely BEST BUYS, & THIS carafe has been one of my favorite purchases to pour GREAT coffee out of ';^}
