It’s ok
They a bit smaller then I expected, but arrived sealed and intact. These biscuits remind me of crushed up cookies mixed into unscented soap base. They aren’t bad tasting, but not something I would chose to snack on either. They are dense, firm but not too firm, a little crumbly like if you bite into a hard soap bar and just slightly sweet. The flavor is very tolerable, the texture is not too bad, they are VERY filling and I think they’ll do just fine in an emergency situation.

Weird Aftertaste
The way these came packaged is incredible. I've only had one ration to compare it to, this other big 3600 bar that was a sort of lemony cake thing. The way they wrapped 'that' one was just the entire 3 day block all as one bar with little dividers in it so you'd break it apart as you needed it. 'This' one, however, is much better, as each day is separated by a plastic-y, aluminum sort of wrap. And each of those wraps has three slim bars in them for easy consumption over the entire day. I trust them to hold up for years to come! However then we get to the actual taste of the product. For starters, the texture: This one is more akin to a cookie than a crumbly cake like the other ration I had tried that was like a dried up cake of sorts. And it tastes like a sort of cookie that had its flavor sapped out of it, or basically one made entirely out of wheat. That in of itself isn't too bad, but then after some chewing you're left with a rather terrible after taste, almost enough to have made me want to spit it out. Perhaps I'll just get used to it after I get through the other two bars. The lemony cake one I had before took some getting used to as well, so I'll give this one the same chance. All in all though, I'd say it gets the job done. It's certainly not 'inedible' due to the aftertaste, and it would sure beat eating bugs out in the wild lol.

Decent taste and texture.
These actually taste like real food. A very firm, slightly brittle, but reasonably tasty cookie. Would I really want to live on them alone? Of course not. Could I? Probably for a few days, which is exactly what they’re designed for. They arrived well packed with 3 bars per moderately heavy duty, vacuum packed foil packs, that were then inside a decent weight, shrink wrap plastic. There were 3 packs of 3 bars each in the order. There is no inside wrapping on the individual bars. The outer foil wrap is fairly thick but doesn’t appear quite as tough as the Datrexx bars outer wrap. For the same calories per order, despite the higher cost, I would still go for these Russian survival bars instead of the Datrexx bars. Each pack of 3 bars could be easily tucked into a corner of a pack easier than the larger block of Datrexx bars, plus you only need to open one day’s worth at a time (3 bars). Once the Datrexx bar outer pack is open, the inner plastic wrap is a nice touch, but not very protective and the Datrexx bars will need some extra protection/cushioning once the outer foil is open. Overall, these are significantly better than the Datrexx bars, IMO.

Nice to have in vehicle or hiking pack for emergencies
I'm only giving it a 4 star as I haven't broken into the package yet to taste test, I'm going to wait until I'm out on the road on a highway trip of sorts and play into the scenario that I'm stranded and need protein. It came vacuum packed in a "3 day" pack (9 bars). It looks as if each 3 bar pack is individually wrapped in a Mylar type pack separate from the clear plastic, if it's anything like the SOS bars I've had before, they won't be too horrible of taste and will sustain you as long as you aren't backpacking the Andes eating just these. I've included pictures of the shipping package and how it comes to you, even the information and contents.Update: 3/14/18 I lost the original 3 pack that I purchased (probably stashed somewhere in the vehicle for emergencies), so I ordered another 3 pack and tested one out as soon as it got here. Not only did it ship the same exact way as the first set packaging wise, coming in a white shipping bag with another clear plastic bag over the bars. So, unless its jabbed with something sharp...it should last you pretty long in a regulated environment. I broke into one of the packs and gave it a whiff and a bite, smells like flour. Surprisingly delectable! Not overly powerful in the sugar field, and not bland. If I were to compare it, it's like a hard oatmeal sugar cookie with flour undertones. You bite into it and you get 4-5 flavors after your saliva starts breaking down the hard pack, you can look at the mixed ingredients within the bar and you can see slivers of oat and other grains. I included a picture of the bar with a couple bites taken out of it so you can see what it looks like. I devoured it over the course of several minutes, and its been about 2 hours now with no weird feelings. I have yet to start speaking Russian or put pictures of Vlad on my wall..Pros:1. Handy size2. Absolute emergency sustenance if out in the woods/side of road3. Vacuum packed for longevity4. Less than 1lb5. Cheaper than US made ration bars per quantity size6. Tasty enough to be a snackCons:1. Pricey2. The Mylar pack needs to have a zip lock style opening or be malleable to hold a fold once you break into it.3. Too expensive to be a snackWorth buying? YesWill I buy again? Yes

The date on the package is the manufacture date NOT the expiration date. They are good for 5 years
Exactly as described emergancy rations. I havent tried them yet so I cant give a review on flavour. I purchased these for a moose hunting trip to keep in my pack in case I get hungry out in the woods. The date on the side is the date of manufacture NOT the expiration date. They are good for a few years after the posted date. These are not a meal they are emergancy rations so I think it's safe to say they probably dont taste the greatest but they will keep you alive and that's what they are designed to do.When I get around to trying one I'll update this review on the flavour.
