Don't miss it!
A graphic novel that is drawn in a way to challenge and disturb as well as convey and enlighten! The satyricon in graphic form. Amazing. Dark and disturbing and indelible.

'Peplum' is brilliant and worth the journey.
If you're a literalist not given to flights of fancy or abstract thinking, it's best that you avoid literature described as "hallucinatory" or "hypnotic." Those appellations may explain some of the inexplicably low ratings assigned to this brilliant graphic novel. Blutch takes readers open to his gifts on a fanciful journey through the ancient Roman empire with an unreliable and shattered protagonist who is weighed down by his passions and seeking a redemption he can't envision. It's brilliant, both in its line and form and in the written narrative. "Peplum" is hardly for every reader, but those who take it on will be richly rewarded for the risk. Take yourself outside your comfort zone and give in to the pleasures Blutch brings to every page.

Don't be an idiot
I’m a fan of French literature, film and art in general, but incomprehensibility and complete emotional distancing are often, regrettably, hallmarks of that culture. Here is a prime example. If you enjoy being completely baffled by an artist’s intentions, look no further than this book.In fact, look no further than the Introduction, in which the artist , Blutch —a graphic novel rockstar in France-- states that incomprehensibility is precisely his aim. The title I(“Pablum" in translation) tells it all: this is stuff for a public who will swallow anything, as long as it has enough action.Forget about transitions, forget about lucidity. This adaptation of The Satyricon is nothing but a cynical effort by someone who has given up all efforts to “reach” his audience, whom he obviously considers a bunch of idiots.I feel like an idiot for having spent the money on it.

Great Comic
Not "pabulum" at all, but searching, intelligent comics, masterly drawn, and incredibly atmospheric. A wayward story of failed heroics, failed masculinity (and impotence), and hollow identity... Provocative and great.

Art is great! Some of the best out there
Art is great! Some of the best out there. I like disjointed narrative structures but the story is kind of meh and thus the 3 stars. Maybe somethings are lost in translation.I would still recommend for the art alone

It might just be me, but I could not make out just what point the author was trying to make. The illustrations are striking, but the story is opaque.
