Bats at the Beach (A Bat Book)

We really struggle with finding a good book these days for the kids to enjoy. There seem to be a huge amounts of book being written, and few that flow or make sense. This book was exactly what our kids wanted. It’s cute, uses words they don’t hear everyday which leads to questions and interest, and the illustrations are full of detail. We have read it, re read it, and then back to go over the pictures to see all the stuff we missed.As a parent these days, finding books to compete with Technology is difficult. I am happy to say that this book is a great winner for us. I paired it with a Wild Republic Bat stuffed animal as a gift for my daughter… worked great. Thank you for creating this book ….. it was needed.

Great book, excellent visuals and good vocabulary. A well written and fun story for children.

This book is really cute and we often buy it as a gift for kids to take on their beach vacations. It is thematic and adults will enjoy reading it at bedtime.

I'll start with the artwork: one word - STUNNING! Brian makes those beach-bound bats so appealing! Young children will want to look at the pictures over and over - there's so much to see. The moonglow on the ocean, the fireglow on the faces of the bats, the humorous activities of the bat children..... And what kid won't LOVE those icky bugmallows roasting over the fire!Now the text: this is such a fresh story. Kids will love hearing what those playful bats do at the beach while the rest of the world is fast asleep.This one is a pure joy from start to finish - and one that your kids will ask for again and again.

The concept and descriptions are really clever and the illustrations are fantastic. Lots to see (& discuss) on each page. Really a great book.

Bats at the beach book was far better than I anticipated. This is a fictional story in which the bats have a night at the beach. There are cute "jokes" in the wording and images that make the book so batty but paralleling humans to show that difference. These parallels actually heal to teach more than you would think about bats. For example there are cricket legs coming out of marshmallows or the snack bar is hanging next to a light bulb which teaches that bats eat bugs and hang upside down. I was overjoyed that someone would honor bats by making them the main characters of a wonderful children's book. My one complaint is that the bats look more like mice with wings - not like real bats. I know there are a lot of bat species in the world, but most of them have very big pointy ears or some sort of projections to the face or nose... these bats did not have those features. In fact, the only way you know they are bats is they have bat wings. I just wished they looked less like mice and more like a bat but still being cute.

I gave this to my grandson when we went to the beach for our vacation. He loves it!!!

my students thought this book was so funny. I read this to kinder and 1st grade students they laughed out loud when the bats were roasting bug-mellos. while this is a cute fun story it also has some actual bat facts like they only come out at night and they eat bugs and pictures depict how they carry their babies. also the pictures in this book are very nice.

Questo libro e' uno dei miei preferiti per dare comeregalo ai bambini. Utilizza un'inglese molto bella eritmica- i disegni sono bellissimi e particolari.

Not my favourite kids book to read but my child seems love really enjoy it and seeing what the bats get up to. Very well illustrated.
