Complete
I’ve been interested in timber framing for quite a while and have investigated other sources as well. I’ve been a stick/balloon builder for 40+ years and that style is much faster and easier but the structure will more that probably not last nearly as long as timber framed structures. This book is positively the best and most complete book I’ve found. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent Book!
I am about to build a smallish cabin on a piece of forestry land I own. I am a very experienced carpenter but have never timber framed and wanted to build the cabin in that style. This book has a very nice plan in it and it is packed with valuable information. I am certain with this book alone I will be able to construct a timber frame building. Material list, tool list, with power and hand options, very good, simple to read illustrations, and lots of information about understanding wood characteristics.

fair instructions on how to build a small timber frame building.
I like it, my wife isn't impressed.I like it for the couple of tips and tricks it refined for me for timber frame joints. Makes life easier. My wife didn't like it because she felt that it wasn't enough variety of building as they only provide plans and techniques for one style small building. But it's all adaptable. By using the basic techniques, you can do more!

This book covera everything. It's well documented with excellent photos and descriptions. I personally think it took a lot longer for delivery than is should have, but when it got here, it's a treasure Grove of information

Start to finish, this book covers it all
A great book. I got this a few months prior to winter (and to starting my project) and it has been excellent. In addition to educating me on the things I knew I did not know, it also helped me discover the things I didn’t even know I didn’t know. It is written in a format that allows you to think and discover the process. What I really liked was that it took me step by step through the process giving me both knowledge as well as questions I needed to figure out prior to starting my project. I am looking forward to the spring when I can begin to play with the new tools, the new knowledge, and the new workshop I extend to build.

Can be confusing
It’s a great book to learn from it’s just that the way that they word a lot of the things in the book can confuse you and the measurements are good but they only give half it I’ll post a photo to show what I mean . Besides that it’s a good book to learn the basics.

If you want to actually build a timber frame, buy this book!
I'm building my first timber frame building, which is a shed. I have read six different books on the matter, including from Jack Sobon and Tedd Benson. This book is by far the best book I have ever read on the subject of actually going through the process of making the structure in a detailed step-by-step way. For a beginner, this is invaluable. This book doesn't go into all the history and theories so much, but I didn't want that in this book. I got all the history and theory from other books, now I want better "newbie" instructions on how to get out there and build it. With this book, I am finally so convinced that I know what I am doing that I can go out there and build. I ordered my white oak timbers from a local sawmill, bought the basic tools, and am all fired up and ready to go. To summarize, if you want to actually go out and build a timber frame (vs. a historical read on history and theory), buy this book! Thank you Will Beemer for this masterpiece!

Beautiful book
I have been contemplating building a small outbuilding with timbers. But I've never built like this before. I thought it might not be a bad idea to get a book with plans. This hardcover didn't disappoint. The plans are very clear, the photos are beautiful and it give me the itch to get out there and start.
