Yes these work very well on dry walls. I have art work that weighs up to 40 lbs or more. They come in different sizes. You can't go wrong with these.

Will these work on plaster walls?

Yes. I used them in plaster walls. I like them very much.

How long are the nails? Are they long enough to go through the dry wall and into a stud?

The nails are 1" long. Mine went into wood so it was no issue. It will depend on the thickness of your dry wall.
