One of the best games for a 2-3yo.
There aren't many games that a 2yo can play without some patience and rule relaxing (e.g. extra dice roll, out of turn play, shift of player pieces to other spaces, etc.). This game is an exception. The rules are simple, play is fast and collaborative, and the theme is relatable for little kids. There are no dice rolls; rather, pieces are selected by feel from a bag then placed on the player board (a picture of a bedroom with spots for a bed, lamp, portrait, and stuffed animal), or, if a monster, back in the box while saying, "go away, Monster!"Players are encouraged to find the pieces for each other's boards after completing their own board. Accordingly, the emphasis is less on winning and more about the gameplay itself.

Builds confidence for younger kids
My 3 year old daughter hates the grinch. We’ve had hours upon hours of conversations discussing the topic. She understands why Jim Carey put on that scary costume, she understand what Dr Seuss wanted to teach us, but there’s a fear that lingers in my child’s mind. Within that context, I bought this game in the hope it might empower her. And it did!We still discuss the Grinch and why he was so mean, but I sense a different confidence in my child. And it extends to my 5 and 6 yo. What do we say to monsters? “GO AWAY MONSTERS!”The game is almost too simple, but it’s also engaging. You never know when you’ll pull out or monster, but it’s up to you how you handle it! It also encourages teamwork, sharing, and communication. This simple game made a real difference in my kids life’s. Now that’s priceless! ;)...but I also wouldn’t pay more than $10-15 for it...

A great game for young children!!
The media could not be loaded. Super cute game for preschoolers!! This is a very basic and easy game to play. As demonstrated in my video, you simply take turns pulling pieces out of a canvas drawstring bag and hope to get a piece that is part of your bedroom board. If so, you add it to your board and continue playing until you fill your bedroom with all the necessary pieces (that’s how you win!). If you pull out a monster piece, you get to shout out, “Go away monster!” and toss it into the box or aside. You lose your turn, but it’s still fun! My kids love this game, especially my three-year-old son! I think this would even be great for younger kiddos, around age 2. I also took a couple photos of the instructions to reference. Hope that helps!

Cute game for toddlers
My granddaughters, ages 2 and 4 love this game. Easy for them to play and they laugh whenever they pick a monster and throw it in the box.

A great introduction to cooperative games and imagination
This is a great first game for kids. You can introduce taking turns, following rules, trying your best, sometimes getting what you want, and sometimes taking joy in helping out other people. You draw bedroom furniture and monsters out of bag without looking (but you are allowed to use your sense of touch fully). The game has wonderfully playful art, and the color schemes of the pieces and the bedrooms gives the kids something to have opinions about without there being a clear "right" answer. My kids got very into saying "Go Away Monster" when they got a monster which was also a useful phrase to bring back up when they were scared. My kids also decided that Monsters weren't always bad, so we made the house rule that you could invite the monster to stay in your bedroom if you wanted using the phrase "Stay Here Monster". The choice of who to help and whether to keep the monster made them feel empowered and to start telling stories with us.

Best Board Game for a 2-Year-Old
DescriptionThis is a perfect game for young children (2-3 or 4 years). In Go Away Monster the goal is to furnish your new bedroom. To play, you draw a tile from a bag with bedroom items (a bed, picture, lamp, and stuffed animal) and monsters. If you draw a bedroom item you get to place it on your bedroom board. If you draw a monster tile you banish it by saying the eponymous, “GO AWAY MONSTER!” and throwing it into the box. The shape of each tile is different and you choose items by their shape. Some monsters are similar in shape to bedroom items but with small differences.Player reactions:This game is perfect for small children. It introduces the basics of a game (a set of rules and taking turns) with a fun activity. My daughter loves to root around in the bag for a tile. It is easy for her to large bed tiles - but even when they are in the bag she likes to search around for others. Sometimes she even tries to find the monsters on purpose because loves to yell, “Go Away Monster!” Heck, I like doing it and I am 35! My exaggerated fear and banishment of the monster with gusto gets lots of laughs from her. Children will outgrow the game but there are plenty of anecdotes of 5-year-olds who still enjoy it. It’s easy but the fun factor of the actions remain.Points of interest:There are a couple other mechanics that you can tweak for your family. The game can be played either a race to find your room tiles first or, if you don’t like a competition, cooperatively. If you draw a room piece but don’t need it, give it to a player who does. Even competitively there is no way for the monsters to win - one player finishes fastest, then the next, etc.Should you buy it?This is the best game for a 2-year old child. Other “games” marketed for this age are turn-taking activities. This is a true game - and is the reason that Go Away Monster is more fun for everyone compared to all competition. Buy the game.

Priceless Memories! Adorable, and a Great Purchase!
My 3 year old Nephew has the best time playing this game! You have to be willing to be loud and goofy when a monster is pulled for the kids to cut loose too, but the results are adorable/priceless. (Another reviewer had given this advice and it really came in handy.)Every time we (the adults) pull a monster we always seem to miss the monster pit (we just use the bottom of the box) while we are acting playfully afraid and saying "Go Away Monster". So of course my nephew has to jump to out rescue, grab the monster off the table and toss it in the pit to "save us". I literally filmed almost an entire game just to capture his expressions and comments as we each reach in the bag and anticipate what we might draw as well as him saving us from the monsters. It's just priceless memories.

Great fun for ALL the family!
My husband and I play a lot of boardgames, so we're always on the lookout for games to get our young boys involved and hopefully share our enjoyment. I had read about this game on several forums rating it as a top game for preschoolers, so I was keen to see what it was all about. My initial view was that it looked too simple and I wasn't convinced that my just 3 and 5 year olds would stay interested... But on a rainy day I decided it was time to try it. Well my initial worries were unfounded. This game is spot on for my 3 year old and the rest of us really enjoyed it too. We all played several rounds and all got really involved which was lovely. The gameplay: Each of the 4 players has a game board with 4 items that you need to collect to complete the picture; a bed, a lamp, a cuddly toy and a picture. You have to lucky dip in the game bag for these pieces, feeling for the shape of them... but trying not to be caught out by the monsters. If you get a monster, everyone joins in to shout "go away monster!" (Which everyone loved!) and throw it in the monster pit! There is a less competitive and a more competitive option... In the less competitive one, if you pick out say a lamp, but you already have one on your board, you then give it to one of the other players for their board.I'd really recommend this game for families with young children. It's a great introduction to turn taking, winning/losing and also working cooperatively to tell those monsters to go away. It's simply fun and great to have a game that everyone of all ages can play and just have a good time together without any arguments or drama! The game is also of a really nice quality, which I have come to expect of Gamewright... I had initial reservations regarding the price, but now think it is very good value indeed.

Perfect for a 2-year-old
This is my first review ever.Bought it for my son's 2nd birthday and it is a hit. It's something my 2- and 4-year-old can play together by the rules without adult supervision and they enjoy it immensely. As someone else put it, with this game, taking turns just works. The 3+ on the box is probably an overstatement, the perfect window of opportunity is somewhere around 2, I think. Unless you have a sibling you can now play a proper boardgame with...
