Prince: The Man and His Music Paperback – February 9, 2016

Absolutely an amazing book! I'm only a fraction of the way through it, but I'm loving every minute of it! Reading a book that focuses primarily on Prince's music and art in an incredibly comprehensive and intellectual way is a balm to my heart and spirit, especially in the wake of his passing. Thank you!

This book is about Prince's work, not about his personal life. Biographical details are mentioned only when they apply to his work (hence very little mention of his marriages, unless they influenced his work in the form of a song or collaboration). For me, it's one of the best Prince books out there.

The print in this book is small it makes it hard to read. Sometimes I feel as if I need a magnifying glass to read the book. In terms of the content I am just getting started but most of the information I already knew from reading previous books on his Royal Badness. I will update the review after I have completed the book. FYI...it's a really thick book there are over 600 pages in the book and photos which is nice.

4 me this book is not so much a biography. It is more a meticulously researched and review of released and unreleased music. The author thoroughly studied Prince's musical career. I give him credit, he did an excellent job. My disappointment comes from the fact that this book is categorized as a biography. It does not give much if any information on Prince's life or him as a person, icon or legend. Having said that his life was his music, so in a sense u do get a glimpse into who he was. The book does interview people who worked with him and knew him personally, but they do not offer a true insight of who he really was (or what it was like 2 know him). I imagine a book on Prince's personal life would be difficult to write being that he was extremely private. In conclusion if u r looking 2 read about his extensive musical career, this book is the encyclopedia 4 u. If u want 2 read about Prince's life I'd go else where. More 4 serious/hardcore Prince fans.

This was a great book about one of the greatest artists ever! The author concentrated on what Prince's greatest contribution was - the music! Bravo!

I'm only halfway through the book. What I really like is reading the backstory to Prince's albums and projects. This is not a gossipy or superficial book which I really like. The author did real research and really respects Prince and his work.

Upon initially ordering the book, I was excited that the book would focus on more of Prince "the man" versus popular stories we've all heard about him, but upon completion, I was left disappointed. The author's tone at times is ingratiating, and often seems dismissive. I know the book simply seems to follow chronology, but it felt lacking in structure. Hearing from the people who worked behind the music (for instance, Dr. Clare Fischer) was great, but toward the end when the author essentially complained about being "bored" with Prince performing hits when he wanted to hear more rare cuts at concerts, I was pretty over it.So yes, I'd say this is a book that any real Prince fan should read, but not necessarily because the book is of that much value, but because I'm sure any real Prince fan would want to consume as many perspectives of the man as they can.

Not for the lighthearted Prince fan that just wants gossip! Very detailed history of his music, from the beginning.. It will be a great read for those true Prince fans who are curious as to how and why things happened the way they did.

Great biography

I have read 3 different books on Prince's music in quick succession and this one was the best even for novice like me. I did not, unfortunately, followed his music carrier until his death. Since then I did a lot of research and catching up and I got hooked on music of this genius. This book definitely helped me to understand his musical and partially private journey through life. I would highly recommend this book.

Oui c'est LE bouquin de référence sur Prince. Très fourni en infos mais aussi bien écrit, car l'auteur était TRES fan. Donc une vraie dimension émotionnelle. Il y a aussi celui de Touré, mais qui est plus branché sur la dimension religieuse de Prince...
