SO GOOD
What a delightful, quirky treat! This is EASILY the best book that I’ve read by this author, and I’m always excited to get my hands on her new releases. I really wasn’t sure what to expect going in, and that made the journey all the more interesting. It’s part rom com, part murder mystery, and part dark comedy – the perfect combination of elements to make this highly entertaining and bingeable. And the hero? LOVED him. He’s like a sweet alpha with a nerdy side, a guy who is willing to put in the work to get his girl. It was so refreshingly different that I was completely invested from start to finish, and enjoyed it the whole way through. The story follows Zoey, a woman who has gotten used to talking to dead people more than she does live ones… and not in a supernatural way. She’s a coroner who is considered something of a black widow around town, since she deals with death on a daily basis and seems to bring it to those she spends time with. So when Zoey runs into Blake – literally – she does everything she can to stay away. But Blake is an insurance agent who has already calculated the risks, and he’s determined to win a date with the mysterious beauty. When their careers bring them together on a case of sorts, these two have no choice but to get closer.I loved all of the offbeat comedy, the relatable (yet eccentric) characters, and the unique storyline. The tone felt very different than anything I’ve read by this author – in a good way – and it kept me on my toes throughout. And I really, really liked the growth in intimacy. Blake won’t let Zoey write him off, run scared, or keep things casual, so the payoff at the end of this slow burn was so good. There’s a great growth in intimacy that makes this otherwise light, fun read feel like it’s got some serious depth. We’re also introduced to some other intriguing characters, and their stories would likely be just as interesting. Here’s hoping that we get more like this from the author, because this was a seriously good read. I received an early copy via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review of this quirky caper.

Dry humor, loved it. But up the sexy bits.
I’d give this 3.5 out of 5. It was adorable. Blake worked hard to get into Zoey’s life. And he did it the right way. Zoey had a hard time thanks to past experiences. And townsfolk crediting her w all the sad bits she’s had to go through. (I still blame camp Peanut Butter Kissers MOM!) Chunky, Blake’s dog, was cute. But kinda forgotten near the middle / end. Trivia night was pretty good lol. It was loveable to see how far Blake would go to make sure Zoey was ok, wood to knock on everywhere. And Zoey made progress. But this book was a bit to dry for me. I like my romance books to have a bit more sex scenes. And that’s my style. So. If you’re more of a less is best, w dry humor, this is yours.

HEAT, HEART & HUMOR !
I reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.Zoey is drop dead gorgeous, but that isn't what scares all the guys away. She's Williamson County's Coroner and apparently to most men, that's a big turn off. But to Blake, the guy she just t-boned with her car, she's the total package. Even though they got into an accident, Blake is totally interested and wants to know more about her. He tries his luck by using the charm he already knows works on women, but Zoey is not like any woman he's ever known. She keeps to herself, almost as if she has no other choice. Almost as if she's afraid. It doesn't help that the entire town thinks she's weird, crazy, and oh yeah, cursed. Maybe that's why she's questioning his motives. Blake isn't about to freak out and run for the hills, and its been a long time since a man hasn't. Zoey is confused. Even the town gives her a wide berth, and even though she laughs it off, it hurts. Blake wants to take that hurt from her. He also wants to kick the entire town's @$$.I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK ! SUCH AN AMAZING STORY ! ZOEY'S INNER DIALOGUE, AS WELL AS THEIR BANTER, WAS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS ! FULL OF HEAT, HEART, HUMOR AND DEFINITELY INTRIGUING, THIS BOOK IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST READ ! ! !

Great story
I joked with my hubby that I finally found a book that doesn't have a billionaire. Just a life insurance agent and a coroner. Good mistery, great ending.

Romance in a morgue
Yes and no. I did find even the moments in the morgue romantic but that might be only my opinion influenced by watching so many criminal TV shows. Still, "Death is what I do, life is what he does" is kind of the perfect way to say that opposites attract, even if they aren't different in everything. They can be opposites and still find things they have in common. It's like the perfect match, guaranteed to have them interested in each other for the rest of their lives. What I didn't expect in the book was the mystery twist. Death that's possibly a murder and with it, a possible murderer. Attraction from out of this realm, little town and its citizens who are all kinds of positives and negatives. Humor in life and death. Intriguing, complex, funny personalities. I liked it all and wholly recommend to everyone. Lauren Landish rocked this book and its characters.

Well Done!
Drop Dead Gorgeous, damaged goods, cursed. Those are some of the things that Zoey has felt about herself for a lot of her adult life. It’s those nicknames and the closed-minded people in her community that leave her believing that she’s not worthy of love and a relationship. Blake is her saving grace, her nerdy-little-hottie-with-a-heart that just won’t stand for that way of thinking anymore. He sees past her “crazy” because he’s a just a little crazy himself. They’re two peas in a pod and they set out to solve the mystery that drew them together in the fist place...well, except for that one little finder-bender! This was a really sweet story with a great storyline and awesome main characters and secondary characters. I love all the Lauren Landish books I’ve ever read and this one certainly rates right up there with every other one! Well done, Ms. Landish.

Funny and sweet.
I first discovered Lauren Landish during Lockdown and read My Big Fat Fake Wedding.I’ve read many of her books’ series since then. Her writing is addictive.Especially in these times.I understand that it’s erotica, but even if it wasn’t.. I mean minus the hot and steamy scenes too... I’d have read her books for sure. I love her stories and the characters who’re so caring about each other. So Blake and Zoey meet when Zoey hits Blake’s car. They both are safe. But Zoey’s history and the people in her county have made her believe that she’s sort of a bad omen for those whom she loves. This has made her insecure and wary.I love how Blake looks beyond her walls of insecurities, self doubts and fears. And I love how he appreciates not only her body but her brains too. And I love how his character isn’t larger than life. He’s mostly portrayed as guy-next-door, or so I think. It takes time, but they both work hard for this relationship. Blake because he has to get past her walls. And Zoey because she has to believe that she can have a happy ending. There is humour and there is emotion. And then there is persistence. Not stalking, but determination. And not a lust for bodies only, but a genuine interest in winning the hearts.Oh and it’s a murder mystery too. And there is humour in that too. I mean Richard Horne, aka Dicky! Seriously!?The supporting characters are good too.Just a teeny tiny itty bitty problem. The words primal and animalistic are used in almost all those romance-erotica novels. Can we find or create more words please?

Extremely funny & heartwarming
I absolutely loved this book! Zoe is so quirky (She reminds me of Temperance from Bones) and Blake is so gorgeous - Inside and out. A true romantic comedy, I can definitely see this working on the big screen. All I can say is I want more please Lauren!

Dying to love!
What happens when an insurance adjuster and the county coroner are involved in a car accident? The start of a relationship that has them both reeling! Zoey has just come from a examining a dead body when she hits Blake's car and when she hasn't filed the paperwork a few days later, Blake searches her out. Soon they are embroiled in an investigation of murder that had them getting closer. This was a hilarious read with so many twists and turns that the only surprise is how long it takes them to admit they like each other!
