The lower end of a 4 star read
This book is more on the lower end of a 4 star read. If there were half stars, it'd be a 3.5 rating from me. I'm so glad that I've managed to read this book. I've been hesitant to pick this book up as I was worried that I wouldn't like it and that it would put me into a reading slump. Fortunately, I really liked this book so that did not happen. In fact, this rating is more because I enjoyed this book rather than the story itself, because there were things that I didn't like about this book. The plot of this book was very gripping. It starts off in the past with Bastien's backstory, with his father being taken by a Bone Crier and then it's a fast forward to the present with Bastien wanting revenge. We also meet Ailesse and Sabine who are like apprentice Bone Crier's(?). After acquiring her final animal bone, Ailesse is able to undertake the final task before she is allowed to ferry the souls of the dead, to kill her true love. But it goes horribly wrong because Bastien wants revenge, so he kidnaps Ailesse and sets a trap for the Bone Crier's Queen. What I liked about this book was the fact that this part of the plot started quite early on in the book. It's about 50 pages when this scene happens, and I like the fact that this happened quite early on because sometimes I'll read books and what happens in the blurb would happen half way through the book, so it is like you are promised one thing and you're given another. From then on, the plot is fast paced as it switches the point of view between Aliesse, Bastien, and Sabine. This book is definitely more plot based then it is character based, so that's why I quite enjoyed this book.In terms of the characters, my favourite one is definitely Sabine. I was looking forward to reading her chapters the most and I am the most intrigued about her character in the sequel. I want to see the person that she becomes after the events of this book. I did like Ailesse, but I disliked the decisions that she made. However, I did really like the relationship between Sabine and Ailesse. I think that it is the best part of this book and will continue to be in the sequel. I didn't really like Bastien. I felt like not enough time was spent on his character evolving because he needed his perspective to change. Also, I didn't really see his appeal. If he was meant to be my true love, I'd ask for another one. I didn't mind the side characters but they weren't developed at all.I also didn't like the romance between Ailesse and Bastien. I think the romance felt a bit lazy with them being true loves to one another, because I think even if Bastien was my true love, I wouldn't love him after how he kidnapped and treated me. I think the romance would have been more believable if Bastien wasn't the main kidnapper and was more hesitant in killing Bone Crier's. I don't see Bastien liking Ailesse when she is the focus of his revenge.Another one of my favourite aspects of this book is the magic system. I found it interesting that the Bone Crier's magic stemmed from the bones of the animals that they hunted and killed. The bones need to undergo a ritual in order for the Bone Crier's to be able to use the animals traits. The bones then get fashioned into a piece of jewellery, but if the Bone Crier is not in immediate contact with the bones then they lose the traits of their animals. I do think that this is quite cool but I also thought that if you could take them off and not have the abilities, I feel like people would do that. Like what good is night vision in the day time? But I imagine that it's more like getting a higher prescription of glasses, in the sense that you need to get used to the powers and once you do it's a part of you. However, a thing that I disliked about this world was the random French words and place names. I understand that this book is most likely set in a fantasy French inspired world, but I didn't like the lack of world building. Saying a few things in French, and having a French named city doesn't make me visualise the setting. I am guessing that the nearest town/city in this book is based on Paris because of the catacombs, but there wasn't a lot of description or world building which was disappointing.Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. It does have it's flaws but I will continue on with the series once the sequel comes out. I don't know if I would recommend it, but it's not a bad book. In fact it's a slightly better than average YA book, but that doesn't mean that I would recommend people to read it because it does lack quite a few things. I would perhaps say don't expect a lot.

Soulmates, Sisters and Spirits...
"Believe every story you hear..."*Bone Criers are tasked with the sacred duty of ferrying the dead and preventing them from preying on the light of the living. But their power comes from great sacrifice - a Bone Crier must kill their one true love to show their dedication to the gods of death. Ailesse has been preparing for her rite of passage her whole life, gathering the power she needs from animal bones for ferrying. She is ready to kill the boy that she's destined to love. But Bastien's father was slain by a Bone Crier and he's out for revenge. When Ailesse is taken captive, her best friend Sabine, will stop at nothing to get her back, even if it means defying the gods and breaking the soulmate bond between Ailesse and Bastien.*"You're not missing from me. I'm not missing from you..."*I'll admit that the gorgeous Charlie Bowater cover is what caught my eye but once I read the blurb I knew this was a book right up my street. Bone Crier's Moon is set in a world inspired by France, Galle (similar to the old name for France, Gaul), and it's an original take on the myth of La Dame Blanche, which I really enjoyed. I was living for the true enemies to lovers theme throughout (at one point Bastien nearly chokes her) and I loved the character development of each of our three main protagonists. The world building and the magic system were both well explained and I could picture the book playing out in my head like great movie. After the ending left open so many 'what ifs', I'm looking forward to reading Bone Crier's Dawn to see how the duology plays out. I would recommend this for fans of Serpent & Dove as it plays on the same mythology but in its own unique fashion.*"The gods have nothing to do with us. We don't have to play their game..."

Great starting fantasy book
Good quick read. The overall plot is intriguing however one criticism I do have is that the slow burn romance hits a point where the characters suddenly love each other suddenly I would have liked a bit more development of that relationship before it hits that point.

A Winner!
This book had been on my radar for quite some time, but I never bought it because I tend to check out tons of reader reviews before I buy, & this one had some REALLY mixed ones that made me hesitant. How glad I am, then, that I spotted it on Kindle Unlimited & decided to read it for free & form my own opinion! And that opinion is.... I wish I hadn't waited so long!! My loss, clearly! I actually liked it well enough that I intend to buy myself own copy of both books in the Duology (I prefer hardcopy so I can reread my favorites...plus nothing beats that beautiful new book smell!❤️)Anyway, a lot of the negative reviews I read were focused on the multiple viewpoints, saying that it wasn't really necessary to have Sabine's & Ailesse's POVs, & generally digging one or the other of those two characters. To those people I say PHOOEY!! I really loved both girls & their individual journeys. Bastien's side of things was well done as well. All three of the POV characters resonated well with me. I deeply felt Ailesse's sense of betrayal when she learns all that her mother, Odiva, has hidden from her for her entire life. I could easily sympathize with both Bastien's quest for vengeance & the confusion that ensued when the Bone Crier he encountered was not the monster he anticipated. And in my opinion, Sabine had the best growth arc of all, coming into her own while her world has turned upside down, powerfully driven by desperation to save the life of her best friend despite all odds against her.Obviously I liked the characters, but for me the real treat was in Purdie's worldbuilding. In particular I found the mythology of the Lueress so incredibly fascinating. It was cool to see an alternative French twist to traditional fantasy. Another major plus was that this book didn't end on a major cliffhanger. Most of the main story elements were wrapped up, leaving the reader in such a way that you are eager to know what happens next, but still satisfied by the resolutions we got. That said, I am DYING to read book two now, because I just loved this world so much & can't wait to spend more time there-- & discover how the tale turns out in the end.Bottom line, I shouldn't have been so swayed by a few negative reviews, because this book is pretty great. I liked the writing well enough that I will probably check out other books by Kathryn Purdie. I definitely recommend it to fans of YA fantasy. It doesn't have any annoying, whiny, needy protagonists, or the ever-dreadful insta-love. Overall just a fun, fast read. If some bad reviews are bugging you, I say give it a chance. I'm certainly very pleased that I had the opportunity.

Looking forward to the sequel
Love the concept and the lore of the Bone Crier's. The twists and the betrayal were also fun and quite original. The only thing I missed was a bit more overall depth. Looking forward to Bone Crier's Dawn.

Enemies to lovers!!! do i need to say more?
Great story amazing plot and storyline. Love the characters, and found some a bit annoying honestly but i love the tension and the friendships. The world building is very unique and I have never read anything like this and it’s very well thought out and will have you hopping for stuff to happen all throughout the plot and it’s so worth it.

Livro maravilhoso!
Não me incomoda, porém alguma outra pessoa sim.
