Water Under Water - it fllows
What a treat to read Charles Fishman's latest book. My husband and I,acting like modelmarried couples, have been reading to each other the poems from WATER UNDER WATER. We are captured by "life as a river"Fishman's compelling images of ice, snow, oceans and rivers that shape us and our world. "The Golden Earring" shone andmoved him, a daughter's childhood "melting like pale ice" - with sun entering dark. My husband, a grandfather and great grandfather loves, as I do, "Cape Hatteras" when the poet asks "Have I hooked you, father? and "Will I land your heart at last?"I read and reread "Listening to Brahms" a startlingly beautiful poem - where "Brahms shatters the bow."A fan of Fishman's poetry, I remain impressed, not only by the brave richness of content in this recent collection, but by the ways the poet manages, with such artistic integrity, to offer wellsprings of meanings to us through a contemporary natural lens. The language of water imagery in "Water Under Water" both engages and enlarged us. This collectiion is worth turning to, as we have, again and again.
