A New Benchmark of Aquarium Circulation Pumps The Diablo controllable Direct Current “DC” water pumps are the latest in variable speed flow technology and allows for refined control, enhanced performance and efficiency. The vast majority of circulation pumps available to hobbyist are alternating current "AC" pumps (the type of power that comes out of your wall outlet). Direct current pumps have several key advantages over traditional AC pumps. Most notably, you can control the rotational speed of the motor, thus electronically control water flow rates. DC pumps are also more efficient than AC pumps and produce less heat per volume of flow. Now the aquarist can have full control of the water flow through their sump, filters or closed loop systems!!! This controller allows users to select between six preset speeds indicated by six green LEDs. The controller also features a feed button. When pressed, the pump safely shuts down and automatically reactivates after 10 minutes. Press the feed button a second time to resume normal operation. Diablo DC pumps feature a true slow startup where the pump begins at zero RPM and ramps up to the full preset speed over a period of approximately 10 seconds. The pump and controller are connected via a waterproof 3-conductor union. The detachable controller will allow for a simple waterproof union. The volute can rotate to change the pump`s output orientation in 90 degree intervals, meaning users can output water vertically (up or down) as well as horizontally. 6 Controllable Speed Settings Integrated Memory- Remembers its last setting after a power failure! Convenient Feed Button Efficient DC Current Quiet Startup & Operation Detachable Controller with Waterproof Union True Slow Startup For Fresh or Marine Applications Two(2) years warranty on pump motor One(1) year warranty on rotor Adapters for 3/4", 1" barbed output fittings and 1 1/4" male threaded input and output Can be used for external or submersible applic

Great pump, expensive
This pump is a beast! You pay a little more, but it has a lot of power. Do you know what it doesn't have? A 30 cent foam cover. My dog faced puffer got his tail caught in this. He ended up dying. $279 and no protective foam pad? Four stars because of my dear Rover. Other than that, it's perfect. Powerful, adjustable, quiet, sleek design..FYI: Vortec mp40 replacement foam covers fit this pump perfectly..C'mon Reef Octopus.. #bebest

LEDS burning out after a few months
The lights on the controller started burning out a few months in.I let it go but now, after a year, most of the ligths on the controller do not work.ReefOctopus has been 100% non-responsive to my warranty requests.

Not New in Box
This is probably a fine pump but I received an obviously used product despite ordering one labeled as new. This seems to be a theme with aquarium equipment and Amazon…make sure you have free returns yall.

Diablo DC 5500
After reading the hype I went ahead and ordered this pump. My initial feeling was that it felt more like plastic than I would have liked. Lack of some heft maybe? This pump was replacing a Supreme Mag 18.I was looking for something that would be quieter and pulled less electricity While still being submersible. As it stands I found the pump to be quieter and I love the slow start feature. I was also impressed by the adjustable speed and being able to press one button to feed the tank.I feel that this is a good pump and I'm glad I purchased it.
