Shaped by the Gospel: Doing Balanced, Gospel-Centered Ministry in Your City (Center Church)

I’ve read “Center Church” several years ago and so I was a bit skeptical when I picked up this volume. I feared that it would be a simple repetition of what was already stated in “Center Church”. However I was wrong because these two sections from “Center Church” were an incredibly important reminder while additional content from Michael Horton and Dane Ortlund was very helpful while Keller’s response very gracious and insightful. By the way I dare you not to smile when you read his quote from Spurgen about Christ calling Himself “gentle and lowly”.

This is one of the most challenging and encouraging books I have read this year! It is one I will go back and review the questions, recommend to staff I lead and friends who serve in Gospel ministry. Keller makes me want to study and reflect on the richness and power of the Gospel. I want to be renewed and pray for renewal with other believers. I want to share the Gospel more passionately and purposefully.

I learned so much from reading this book. Just HOW does the gospel of Jesus Christ affect our lives and how we look at the world and others? Shaped by the Gospel attempts to answer this question with clarity and great insight. I highly recommend it for any Christian (new or experienced).

Keller has the ability to describe, define, and defend the Gospel in a way that is second to none. His book helps pastors and church leaders to base their church on the truths of the Gospel as opposed to momentary felt needs as is so common in the world today.

Love Timothy Keller and this book is another among many of his excellent books. Clearly explains the gospel message and gives practical methods on how to share it with others. Highly recommend this book. Looking forward to reading the next in this series of three.
