Q: Is the hitch made from a hollow tube, Or is it made of a solid piece of steel with no air gap in the center?

This seems to be solid steel. 1-1/4 inch drawbars are typically solid in order to have enough strength for the stresses endured. This design is commonly used in Europe, and they prefer trailers to buying bigger vehicles. I bought mine because it allowed for the hitch to remain closer to the vehicle, limiting loss of ground clearance when pulling in and out of steep driveways.
