This solved the problem on my wife's phone, where the USB cable connection was extremely intermittent. We wedged one of these connectors into the USB charging port of the phone, but the magnetic attraction of the two parts kept pulling the whole connector out of the phone. Have had to use insulation tape to hold in place, but it now works great and has saved us having to buy another handset for now.

Magnets are strong in the lateral direction along the poles, but are very weak off axis. Several charging and data dropouts ensued.

Keeping one half of the connector in the phone protects the power slot from dust and fluff.

Very weak magnet. Charging cable needs to be perfectly flat in order to maintain a connection . Works fine in the car though as the cable can hang freely
