There are copious instructions on how to do pretty much everything, but when it comes to attaching the unit onto the mount, all I get is "be sure it is firmly attached".It took lots of fiddling around to get the tabs to line up, something that will be impossible while standing on a stepladder and reaching over head, so be sure to make some marks on the side beforehand so you can line them up without going insane up there.

Purchased two of these P1210 smoke alarms July 2021. March 2024, our security system detected a smoke alarm going off every 30 minutes or so, sending us into a panic while 40,000 feet in the air while flying away on vacation. After several hours of stressful attempts to address the situation, we discovered the smoke alarm was malfunctioning. The item’s test button works as it is suppose to, but the false alarms continue. Units are perfectly clean, free of dust and only lasted less than 3 years from the 10 year advertised life expectancy. The amount of stress caused by this situation & the lack of quality of these units are not worth pursuing a warranty claim. Do not buy. Absolute junk.

Bought one of these a few years ago; still going strong. Not sure how long it will last. Just purchased a couple more to replace my hard wired ones that chirped after I installed a new back up battery. Should have replaced them years ago as the chriping is very irritating! Easy to install and can go almost anywhere.

Installation:The two mounting holes from the bracket nicely aligned with the screws from our previous First Alert alarm, making for an easy installation.Step 1: Twist-unlock y our old alarm.Step 2: Loosen screws of old bracket.Step 3: Remove old bracket.Step 4: Hold up new bracket, align with the old screws.Step 5: Tighten the screws.Step 6: Twist-lock your new alarm.Note:1. Don't manually activate this alarm! The alarm will auto-activate when you twist-lock it.2. If you twist-unlock the alarm, the device auto-deactivates and becomes useless (you'll need to buy another one).3. The manual says: Do not mount on top of electrical box!
