Great addition
I purchased this with mage wars. I watched some videos and really wasn't sure about the game but user reviews were high so I pulled the trigger. Glad I did. Very fun game. We play it instead of Magic the Gathering now.

Nothing exciting, but worthwhile cards to add more customization options
This tome isn't strictly required, but does open avenues for more customization to the core set game. There aren't any new cards here - just more copies of the ones that came in the base set. Still useful for those wanting to add more copies of certain cards to their spellbooks.

More cards is a good thing
I love Mage Wars, so more is better. For the price it seems like there could be more cards, but if you like to have several mages built at once and like multiples in your book you really need both tomes.

Highly Overpriced.
It's frustrating companies do this. It's even more frustrating when it's a new company who can't stand to lose any potential fans with nickel and diming their customers. You get 110 cards, none of which are new, and most of which are additional singles. As example, this and the Spell Tome 2 each focus on different cards/sets. Tome 1 and 2 I cannot distinguish at this point without extra effort and poking around BGG. But, one will have additional cards of one set, like another bear, another gorilla, another hellfire trap, another blinding flash, etc. The other Spell Tome will focus on the others, like another of the angels, another Brogan, and other spells the first tome didn't focus on. Again, it cannot be stressed enough: these tomes offer (with very few exceptions, like jinx, mana flower, etc.) only singles of already existing cards you've gotten in the core set.I've caught a lot of flak over my opinion on stating I feel it might be more beneficial for potential buyers to purchase another of the core set instead of these spell tomes. However, I stand by my analysis, and my reasoning is this: not only do you get very similar sets of additional cards (in some cases more of a certain card, some cases fewer - there are spreadsheets you can find online which break down the differences) for only about ten dollars more here on Amazon, you also get an entire backup set of markers, additional tokens, and another board. Ten dollars and you're getting just about the same thing, card-wise, but a TON more in extra components. The bottom line is I feel duped into paying fifteen dollars for each of these spell tomes, which is five dollars off msrp, and receiving very little value from the product.(I have similar sentiments about the expansion - imbalanced price/value proposition)
