Lots of 'Common Sense'
This book covers the main areas of conversation, such as body language, starting with 'ritual' questions, listening, keeping the ball rolling and ending.Suggestions for Better Conversations looks at remembering names, using silence, conversational pitfalls and making/ maintaining friendships. The book is okay to a point, but I didn't really learn anything new. There is a lot of ground covered but not in great depth.I found Edward De Bono covers the main aspects of conversation in more detail in his book, How To Have A Beautiful Mind. So, this book is reasonable as a starting point.

Smashing
I bought this superb novel at an aiport before I went on holiday, I'm normally quiet a shy, introvert but this changed me a great deal-and for the better. Whilst on the plane after reading the book for half an hour, I started chatting away and made friends with the person sat next to me. I does exactly what it says-How to Start a Conversation and Make Friends, which is now why my address book is completely full. It's straight forward and easy to understand, a useful book. Essencial if you are shy.
