Little Dove: Black Resorts, Book 1

A fantastic read...
...but I don’t think I’ve ever been more uncomfortable in my life.Juliet’s been taking care of her dad for so long she’s more the parent than he is. So when he gets into trouble with someone you really don’t want to be on the wrong side of, all he has to show for it is a extra hole in his face he didn’t start the day with. Now Maximo has to decide what the heck he’s supposed to do with this guy’s kid, especially when he can’t see her as just an obligation...Let’s speak to the elephant hanging out in the corner right off the bat. Juliet is a child. 16 and 366 days is still 16 and having a 16 year old as a romantic lead is skeevy as hell. I really struggled not to be super grossed out by Maximo and his...shall we say...interest in 16 years and 366 days old Juliet. I fell back on a habit that I found myself doing when I first starting reading dark romances where when there’s some part of a character that I found unsettling (their age, an oddly specific origin, some super dark background that made them otherwise unredeemable) I just change it in my head or ignored it whenever it’s mentioned, especially when it bares little significance to the overall development of the character. This is a trick I URGE you to use in reading and enjoying this book which I found to be easy as Juliet does not act like a 16 year old at all. I mean it is super cringe that all the guys kind of start being her dads but their boss wants to be her daddy. Ugh. So just read every mention of her age as say...22, change high school to college and you’ll be great. So a star lost for having her be a child for no real reason I could see other than to be shocking. It really was to the detriment of the book and added nothing...So once that mountain has been conquered this book really is phenomenal. Maximo is all you’d ever want in a alphahole MMC. Over the top obsessive and overbearing but the author writes him with such vulnerability. He really just wanted Juliet to be happy and safe and carefree. And I loved the way that the author showed her giving him control of her life when she’d only ever known it to be chaotic was so cathartic for her. The relief she felt was palpable. This is the RIGHT way to write the “I know best and this is how we’re going to do it” male character. I never found him to be insufferable or got annoyed at her being too spineless. I just really enjoyed the book.Tons of spice, great character development (remember, 22, college) and just really well written. The world never felt empty even though we spend the majority of it in the house, all the characters were well rounded and believable. I feel liked I’d read a book on every one of the side characters. And that ending *chef’s kiss*

A cage can be a prison or it can be a place where you feel safe and cared for
This book ‘Little dove’ have been lying on my TBR pile for a while now and I’m so happy that I finally read it. Because just like the previous books that I read of this writer, I enjoyed this story very much!! When I started reading this story, I only knew that there was a big age gap between the main characters, I didn’t read any reviews because I wanted to discover this story for myself and I’m so glad that I did it that way.The night that her father was killed, the 17 year old Juliet thought that she was next but instead it’s the start of a new beginning and her life will never be the same again. Because instead of murdering her, her father’s murderer kidnaps her to his home and shows her a different way of living. Where Juliet feels safe, cared for, even happy but through it all, Juliet is waiting for the axe to fall, to discover what Maximo will demand in return of her for all the luxury and care that he gives to her. Is it all an illusion or is it real? Will Maximo turn out to be a villain or her savior? The story is told in both POV’s. The age gap between the main characters (Juliet and Maximo) was big (+ 16 years) and the heroine was a bit younger than I expected when the relationship started (she was 18 years old) but she was very mature for her age (Juliet has had a very difficult childhood) and that made that her young age and the big age gap wasn’t an issue for me and because of how their relationship functioned (Maximo wanted to be her sugar daddy, someone who took care of her every need) it felt natural to them and to me as a reader.I really loved both main characters very much!! Juliet was a mix of tough and vulnerable. Her difficult childhood with a father, who was always in trouble and didn’t really care for her made that she was used to taking care of herself. Juliet was intelligent, careful, courageous, fierce, friendly and mature. I really loved how she, under Maximo care, became more happy, energetic and enthusiastic about life. It was wonderful to see her blossom into this beautiful and confident girl/woman. And then you have Maximo! Wow, Juliet was SO lucky to have him in her life. He was a perfect mix of dangerous but with a big heart for the people that he cared for. Maximo took loving and caring for Juliet to a new level, he was definitely an alpha guy with stalking tendencies, also obsessive and possessive with Juliet but his only goal in life from the moment that he met Juliet was to make her happy, to spoil her and give her everything that she wants or needs. Throughout the story, you could feel his feelings for Juliet, yes, even when he spanked her or punished her. He never crossed a line, everything was done with attention to her care. I appreciated that he kept his distance in the beginning. That he gave her time to feel safe and self-confident.The story may not be a mafia story, it did have the vibe of one. This wasn’t a dark story but Maximo was the ‘king’ of his imperium in Las Vegas and because of that he had enemies and Maximo had a very ‘mafia’ way of dealing with them. His bodyguards Ash, Cole and Marco (but they were also much more than that) were fascinating and wonderful secondary characters. (I even have my fingers crossed that the writer will one day write a story for them too!) Another thing that I really loved in this story are the epilogues at the end, those gave us little glimpses of Juliet and Maximo’s future. They had me smiling when I read them.‘Little dove’ was a great story and it reminded me a bit of the book ‘Knight’ by Kristen Ashley. If you liked that story, try this one too and vice-versa.

Rivals Fifty Shades
Trading bondage for daddy link instead, this story completely sucks you in (pin not intended). I downloaded it out of curiosity from an Instagram recommendation. I read it in 2 days! It was very well written and the story line flowed well. But it also had a lot of surprises too! If you’re looking for a dashing overprotective villain coming to your rescue, look no further than Maximo ;)

One of my all time favorites
I read about 200 books per year and this is one of my all time favorites. Read it in 2021, then listened to the audio book in 2022. Loved the narrator, love the writing, love it all. If you have any interest in mafia romance, age gap, or praise- this is a great starting point. Wish there were more like this!

Such a pleasant surprise
Going into this book I had low expectations. I’m not a fan of the daddy k*nk as so far i haven’t had a good experience with it : its use has been random, awkward and quite cringey with no sign that that’s where the story was going. But I’ve read Layla Frost before so I thought I’d give her book a chance. And I have to say it was a pleasant surprise. First I really appreciated that they spent such long time learning about each other (ok Maximo was bordering on stalker but you know… potato/potahto) and they actually clearly discussed their hopes and expectations for the relationship. Juliet didn’t just start calling him Daddy out of left field and Maximo really made it a point to keep the lines of communication open and that made a difference for me in my enjoyment of the book.I also liked the mafia undertone of the story even if it wasn’t the main focus. The real drama/angst were kept to tolerable level and nothing unnecessary in my opinion. I appreciated the support offered by the other characters and that Juliet and Maximo’s love felt real.So while I’m still not a fan of this particular k*nk, Layla Frost managed to keep me engaged and interested instead of struggling with finishing the story.

Absolutely fantastic
I absolutely loved reading this book. The story was brilliant and I loved the characters.Maximo was a fantastic character. He was caring, tough, demanding, dangerous, possessive and charming all in one. I love him. I’m not the biggest fan of the Daddy kink, but holy hell, I’d call him Daddy without a second thought.I loved Juliet as well. She was tough after everything she’d been through, but she was also innocent and naive. I loved her growth and development through this book. The story was great. It was a good blend of a mafia plot alongside the developing relationship between Maximo and Juliet. I enjoyed the threats that they faced and how it all stemmed from Shamus.I loved their relationship. I loved how Maximo knew that it was wrong to want her and how he waited a year for her to turn 18. The age-gap may not have been right, but you can’t help who you fall in love with. He spent a year giving her everything she wanted. He allowed her to find who she is as a person, and then when the time was right, he made his move. He gave her the choice.I loved watching them grow close. She grew with him and he absolutely doted on her, giving her everything she could ever want. How could you not love him? The spark between them was fantastic and I loved watching them truly fall in love. The ending was brilliant, seeing how they were in future. Overall, this book was fantastic. The story was brilliant and the plot developed well. The characters were fantastic. I would definitely recommend this book.Jessreviews.co.uk

MUST READ
I am so giddy from this book - I just wanna shout from the rooftops at how good this is - it’s a MUST READ and has got to be one of the best books I have read in a while, 5 stars just doesn’t do it justice AT ALLLayla created characters that hold you attention with every page, it’s hard to find a book within the Daddy Dom troupe that captures my interest but this was pure perfection. The MC’s of Juliet and Maximo were captivating as they move from one obstacle to anotherMaximo is the ultimate strong possessive alpha obsessed with Juliet from the moment he laid eyes on her. Maximo keeps his distance at first but he protects and cherishes her, gives her everything she never had as a child. However there is a need within him, to have her, to own her in a way only a ‘Daddy’ could.Although Juliet has had a rough childhood, she manages to keep her calm throughout her initial meeting with Maximo, she soon learns that she loves being looked after and maybe even loves the man that saved herMaximo teachers Juliet to be his Little Dove, and urges her to flourish with his help. Dove manages to lower the walls Maximo has built around himself. Juliet balances the line between having a backbone and submitting to her Daddy but the way Maximo nurtures Dove just MELTS MY HEARTI will definitely be buying the paperback however these characters will live rent free in my head forever ♥️

So so good!!
I know when I’ve read a good book, when the 5 stars I get to give on my Kindle isn’t good enough and I just HAVE to write a review….Layla Frost is a new author to me, I found her when I read ‘Give In’ because mamma loves herself a student/teacher age gap romance. 🥰🥰 but Little Dove blew me away….it had the just the right amount of everything and made me fall in love Maximo & Juliet (although Maximo is very similar to Massimo and I had Michele Morrone living rent free in my head ENTIRE book 🥵🥵)I don’t mind the Daddy kink, and I totally get why it was explored in this story and it was done really tastefully. Despite Maximo’s control freak tendencies Juliet held all the power, don’t skip this if this sort of thing puts you off as you’ll miss out on a really good love story. There’s even a bit of humour at points thrown in usually from Juliet. If you’re thinking that’s she just another spineless female MC’s think again she was a bloody BADASS which worked with the Daddy kink and why that was needed in the plot development.I’m now off to go and buy this in paperback and add it to my smut bookshelf because this is one I know I’m going to read over and over again.

Daddy issues
I went in blind with this book. I enjoyed the beginning, it had a good storyline, some humour, lots of sexy scenes. Juliet McMillon was our heroine, she hadn’t head the best start in life, she’d had some tough scrapes mainly the fault of her own father. But then Maximo Black took charge, he is controlling, hot headed, hot as hell. But the “Daddy” stuff put me off, I just felt it didn’t need it.
