Q: does the rim get hot when hot liquids or, just in general, hot foods are inside? Not that I'm not expecting it to, just wondering.

Sorry, I have no idea. But I do know that I liked the quality of these strainers, they are durable and well made.

Q: Are the different sizes all the same mesh?

I believe the original question related to the size of the mesh, not the strainer. In order to be used for tea or coffee grinds for example you'd want the mesh to have smaller openings as the strainer size gets smaller. The description implies such,the 1st answers says all use same size mesh openings
