Writing & Rhetoric Book 2: Narrative I - Student Edition - A one semester course for grades 3 or 4 and up

I bought both the teacher edition and the student edition. Writing has been extremely hard for my 6th grade son. We have tried 6 different programs. We are two lessons into this program and my son is not crying when we pull it out. He actually said he liked it! I have NEVER heard the from him before. I am using this same book with my 4th grader. They are both doing great and enjoying it. I like that I can do it as fast or slowly as we need to go. The instructions are clear. In the teacher book it does have some examples that have already been helpful to my older child and tells me what is being accomplished with each chapter. I do like having both the teacher and student editions especially because I am working to help my son get better at writing. It is nice to have another way to explain it. I can see how it wouldn't be necessary to buy the teacher book if you have a natural writer or know the information they are teaching. I am also very happy with the customer service. They have answered quickly every time it have asked a question and answered with helpful information.

I have tried four different writing programs before finding Writing and Rhetoric and always ended up frustrated. Finally I've found the writing program of my dreams. I love the methods of the progymnasmata, but I was not trained this way myself and needed a program that could guide me through teaching my children this approach to writing. This book is easy to use and my child is actually excited about writing. I'm looking forward to the next books in this series.

I think that this program is a perfect blend of the classical progymnasmata and a modern, creative approach to writing. Other programs we have used have bored my child to tears, but with W & R, he actually looks forward to writing. The Teacher's Edition is an exact reprint of the student edition with sample answers filled in. I'm not sure how useful it is to most families. I pulled it out occasionally for guidance, but it sat on the shelf more times than not. You could possibly just buy the teacher's edition and let your student use notebook paper if you felt you needed the sample answers.

I Love LOVE love this series of writing for homeschool! I feel this is the easiest way for kiddos to start to understand and duplicate good writing.

This series is well written and progresses incrementally so that progress is easy for my student.

My reluctant writer (9yrold) loves this program. It is gentle, yet every exercise is purposeful. I love that there is a lot of narration practice. The book is open and go. It does a great job of explaining different literary devices and gives opportunity for the kids to practice them.
