Staff is great (maybe a little better directions). Great company response.
The staff comes in sections with a steel cable running down the center. To lock it you pull the top 2 sections apart until a pin pops up and locks in place (picture). They don't put any directions in there you just figure it out. The first time I tried it I pulled the handle off, I thought I broke it. My initial reaction was to curse and email them about their product. They responded quickly and offered to replace it no questions asked. Then I noticed that you if dont pull it apart using the handle (just grab the two metal sections and pull) it works fine. The handle is a heavy duty plastic covered in rubber (pic). It's not a one-hand set up but it didn't cost $100 either. It's tall enough -I'm 6'5 215lbs. Also comes with a belt case. Looking forward to using this on the river. I think I'll be plenty sturdy.

Sturdy
I was a bit hesitant to order because I really wanted to look and feel it before buying. However, at least with Amazon I could return it hassle free if I did not like it. I was happily surprised when I received it. It was much better quality than I expected. It is compact for carrying and goes together easily. I will say that it takes both hands to assemble it for use but I anticipated that and it is a tradeoff because I have used the ones that you can assemble with one hand and they also unassembled easily while in use. I am getting older and no longer as stable as I would like so this staff is just what the doctor ordered to make me more comfortable in swift water with slick and rocky bottoms.

Don't waste your money
I got this staff 8 months ago. It has never worked, and I've never used it. I thought there must be some lever or something to reactivate the spring, but I believe the reality is that the spring never worked and the staff has no way of being put together and usable. Of course now it is too late to return...

Functional-Good Price
This is a good wading staff for the money. Since you need to pull on the upper section to lock the segments in place it is not a one handed operation which is a small inconvenience. The smaller diameter makes it seem less robust but, it held up well. The lanyard design could use some improvement but all in all a very usable piece of equipment. I would prefer a less shiny finish when fishing as well.

This staff, is a great bang for your buck!
I didnt want my bad hip to put me out of commission of fishing! I was kind of worried, cause it is on the bottom end of price for wading staff. But I was happily surprised over the quality of the staff, of how easy it is to assemble, and take down. The hoster is handy to store the staff. The staff height is good for stability in slippery, flowing streams and rivers. All in all, this is a great bang for your buck!!!!

Good price but a bit heavy
I like the way the staff clicks together and disassembles-- despite other reviews it is not rocket science to figure it out. The case it nice and the staff itself is metal and sturdy, but it is a bit heavy as might be expected. I dont give 5 stars unless I've tested a product for 10 yrs, but this one is a 4 for me.

Assists with balance while fly fishing
unfolds quickly when support is needed, and collapses quickly to store in the included waist pouch

Junk
First, the staff came with no instructions, and its use is not evident. After serching on line, I found a video, but the staff I recieved does not have a retaining pin that is shown in the video so it does not stay assembled. Also it is a joke to watch the fisherman try to assemble the staff in the video.
