How-to information for the gift-giver
Our LCD writing board was packed with a 3-pound bag of food on top of it. Not a great customer service, Amazon! Despite that, the board works perfectly. I opened the writing board box and shreds of the packing plastic fell out. The board came with what I discovered is an extra CR2016 3-volt lithium battery which was loose in the writing board's box (safety hazard if a young child gets it). Thinking it was shipped with the battery outside of the case, I used an eyeglasses screwdriver to open the battery case drawer. Be sure to do this somewhere (like a tabletop *away* from the edge) that if the screw drops, you will be able to find it in this century. : ) The screw is as tiny as possible. The switch to make the board unerasable is on the back and works great. Next, how do I REMOVE the STYLUS??? Based on another review that said to pull it straight up and out, I dug my fingernails under the back end of the stylus and yanked with moderate force. That was the trick. The stylus tip is in a protective hole. The back end (if it were a pencil, the eraser end) has to come out first. It also came with a stretchy cord. To attach the cord, first put one loop through the stylus end and bring the rest of the cord over the stylus and through the loop. Pull snug. Second, put the other loop through the hole on the writing board (I did this from the back of the board). Bring the stylus over the board edge and down through the loop. The bead will come through the hole, too, when you pull the loop snug. If you attach the cord to the writing board first, you won't be able to attach it to the stylus. To place the stylus back in its holder, put the tip into the tip hole. Align the back end to the slot. I was careful to keep the cord out of the slot, but I don't know if that matters. I used the pinky end of my fist and gave the stylus a quick tap. It snapped right into the slot. The actual writing area is 9 inches by 6.75 inches. I think that is plenty big. It can be held either way - portrait or landscape orientation. Just don't accidently squeeze the erase button while holding the edge. My only concern is that there is no power switch. The box promises me the battery life is about two years. Since it is on All the time, two years will be a nice surprise. That extra battery is appreciated! I haven't given this to the child yet. It is best on a holiday morning to have the toy all set up ready to use, so that's what I just did. I'm glad I spent some time preparing it for fun, fun, fun!

Impressive
Wow, I rarely leave reviews but I am so impressed with the accuracy of the screen and pen. I purchased for gifts, but I can’t imagine they won’t love these. They are very thin, so I could imagine with kids abuse they won’t last forever, but they’re less wasteful than other electronics and the price is great! Buying another set for gifts.

Kids like them although the back lighting with the color isn't all that bright.
The kids enjoy these, including, of course, having to "draw" on the entire thing to see what the colors look like with all the black removed. The underlying colors aren't all that bright (why I took off one star) but the kids didn't seem to mind. They like doodling and erasing over and over. It was a smart move to make a way to tie the "pen" to the frame in the corner as it is then less likely to be lost. If it does get lost because someone decided to see if they could remove it in typical kid fashion, you can use the back of your fingernail to draw on it. It's small enough not to take up a ton of room. All the kids (ages 3-11) have fun with these. Smart move they include two in the box as that saves on fights.

Meh
These are light weight and easy to use. My 7 year old uses them in the car. I am disappointed in the color of the screen...the photos look almost rainbow when you write, but ours are only a blue color. The pen on the blue one falls off and won't clip in. We've had to hunt for it a few times.

Kids loved them
Purchased these for Easter for both kids Age 4 and 8. We took them on vacation with us and both kids loved them. I was surprised that even my 8 year old used it a couple times during the car ride.Super easy to store and travel with because they aren’t big and bulky. My 4 year old was easily able to carry it around or put in her little bags.
