House sparrows tend to pile on the feeder. But I have noticed that if you put in peanuts or larger seeds they don’t linger as much. The squirrels however learn to jump and take the peanuts. I've had two for 20 years and just purchased an extra one because there are so many birds. A squirrel cannot crack the tube, although once a squirrel did pry the metal bands on one of them so they bent outward a little, which did not affect the bird's ability to feed. These are super easy to clean, the bottom pulls out and slips back in easily.
