Q: Some n64 games are too dark to play on an hdtv even with brightness settings on high (doom64). does this product improve the brightness?

Nope. Sadly the canyon you have to fly through on the construction yards level of Star Wars Rogue Squadron still looks as black as space with this device. Doom 64 seems to look okay, but I only played the first level on my N64, and I know there are darker levels. The only solution I've found to boost brightness on an HDTV using an actual N64 console is doing the Ultra HDMI hardware mod (or finding a console pre-modded on eBay, which is pricey). Outside of that, check out the free Project 64 emulator app to play N64 games on Windows with much better resolution, color, and brightness. Also, if you only care about Doom64, they remade that game with better graphics and controls earlier this year and it can currently be found on the Playstation Store (or you can get a copy for free with purchase of the new Doom Eternal for PS4/XBox One).

It’s been working fine with my 4k 55 inch tv. It also has a button on it that’ll make jagged edges smooth but you will have to press it every time you turn on the console.
