Compact and useful UV/Black light torch
AHOME V10S UV 365nm Blacklight Torch [Purple Head]Compact and useful UV/Black light torchUV lights aren't something that you naturally think you'll want to own, but just occasionally they can be a great tool to have around the house. Especially if you have pets or young children as they can pick out spills and stains you might otherwise never know were there. They can also pick out other bits of detritus that get lost amongst the colour and texture of your carpets. The Ahome blacklight UV torch has so proven to be quite an accomplished little UV torch. We have a young border collie, Storm, who does like to eat things she’s not supposed to so it’s quite useful to be able to scan the carpet to see if there’s anything lying around that shouldn’t be. I’ve used it to find a gathering of woodlice, for example, that had come in through an airbrick. The glow iridescent in a UV torch’s light. The torch itself appears well made. It has a USB charging port, with included charging cable, and a single button for operation. It cycles through solid light, strobing and emergency lights. Quite why you would use a UV light for emergency purposes isn’t entirely clear, but that suggests to me that this UV light is simply a standard torch that has been modified to be a blacklight. I have a near-identical standard torch sitting right next to it in my cupboard. The price of the torch is perhaps a touch on the high side at the time of testing. It’s a bit of a specialist item and not something I’m likely to use particularly often, while the extremely useful standard torch I have I use regularly and take with my in my dog-walking bag was a third of the price. But, on the whole, it’s a very good little UV torch which satisfies the brief and therefore comes recommended.

A Well Made UV Torch... But Can Be Extremely Dangerous If Used Incorrectly
The media could not be loaded. This is an excellent UV Torch, constructed primarily from metal that should come with some health and safety guidelines. I read a few of the other reviews and was quite frankly a bit shocked at what people were using it for. If you want a torch to jog with or find things... get a normal torch. This is potentially damaging to skin and eyes if used incorrectly. It uses UV 365nm light which can be very dangerous if you look at it directly or shine it on skin. 365nm is UV-A light (like the light from the Sun!) so I would recommend wearing suitable goggles or decent sunglasses to protect the eyes when using. Short term eye exposure from any reflected UV-A light is deemed not too dangerous but it's not something I personally would mess about with. Definitely NEVER look directly at the torch when on.It also should not be shined on exposed human skin as UV-A can cause skin ageing and also lead to skin cancer. So this is not a toy, and should not be left lying around for children to play with. Basically, think of it as the Sun in a torch, and treat it with the same level of respect. As for the actual torch, it is very good. I've included a few photos and a video of the torch in operation which I hope you find helpful.Unscrew the body and insert the supplied rechargeable battery and then screw it up nice and tight before charging via the Micro USB port. This is nicely protected from the elements underneath a silicone flap which has a reassuring depth and positive action when pressing it down. The main power switch is also covered in silicone so feels good and is also easy to locate in darkened environments. The textured main body provides a decent level of grip and the torch is nicely weighted in the hand. There are 4 different light settings on the torch but I can't see why you would need either the "Strobe" or "SOS" option on a UV Torch.I'm using mine mainly to supercharge the lume on my watches but if you want to scare yourself, switch it on and shine it around your bathroom. What you think is clean... well... it's fair to say mine looked like a scene from CSI or Dexter (I blame the very hard water where I live which is picked up by the torch). So this is a very good UV torch, but one that should be treated with respect and used only for the areas where UV 365nm light is of benefit.

The best UV torch I have
The torch was neatly packaged and once the 3.7v, 3000 mAh 18650 Li-Ion battery was installed, it worked immediately, but I put it on charge. Initial charge current drawn was 0.52 A at 5v and the little LED above the on/off switch was red. Charge current slowly declined until fully charged, indicated by the LED becoming green. Charging is accomplished via a micro-USB connector under a rubber flap. There is a supplied 50 cm long micro-USB to USB-A cable, which worked. There is a double-sided all-English ‘Instruction sheet’, the translation to English isn’t too bad.The case is all metal, with metal pocket clip and it has a sturdy weight to it (117g). It is 116mm in length and 28mm diameter (35mm across the switch and socket bumps).Switching is affected by a rubber covered push button which has a fairly typical torch sequence of OFF, ON (bright), ON (dim) and (fast) Flash 2-3 Hz. If you press and hold the button down for two seconds, it goes into morse code “SOS” signalling mode, cancelling of which requires another single ‘click-release’ of the button. In use, the beam is quite intensely focused to a ‘spot’ 8 cm across at 70 cm (e.g. hand-to-floor) distance. The beam is noticeably ‘whiter’ than standard-fare 395nm UV torches (which look violet), on most surfaces. That is, until it illuminates something reactive, such as organic spills or a glass/sand ornament, see photos, both these also reacted to the 395nm UV, but only at very close range. With this AHOME 365UV torch, they lit up from over a metre, or 3 feet, away - for close work, the dim setting is sufficient, and the charge should last much longer. In prolonged use, brightness appears to fall continuously (with cell voltage) until too dim to be effective. Please note there is no low-voltage protection in either the 18650 cell or the torch, so if left on accidentally (e.g. overnight, as I did), the cell can be very deeply discharged. The supplied cell was removed and tested in a battery capacity tester, the result on first cycle was 2537 mAh, which is below spec. (label says 3000 mAh), but I had just deep discharged it (and charged again). In use, the UV light emitted is very strong and personally, I’d suggest eye protection might be a wise precaution if there’s a chance (e.g. reflection from shiny metal or mirror), of it getting in to your eyes. This is not a toy. Please see all photos, including the comparison between illumination of a kitchen bench spill by 395 nm ‘UV’ torch and this AHOME 365 nm one.I marked it down a star for the over-discharge issue, which is probably harsh, think 4.5 stars, it is now my ‘go-to’ UV torch.

Erleuchtend!

A nice compact UV light !
I got this AHOME V10S UV 365nm Blacklight Flashlight [Purple Head] & [USB Rechargeable] Black Light Ultraviolet LED Lamp, Scorpion Finder & Pet Urine Detector with 3000mAh Battery and Charging Cable, for The home. I liked the size, the instruction paper, and that it came with all the necessary accessories. I charged it up via the USB cable and all worked well. I use this to check on my two fury children (My Dog and Cat) to check if they have had any mishaps in the house(thankfully they have not). I also use this to charge up my Lumens on my watch, which it does very quickly. Naturally, this does not replace charging the lumens with 8 hours of outdoor sunlight. but the UV light is small enough to keep in my pocket, to use if the need arises. In my opinion, just a neat little 5-star item to have.

Discovering the reality of the carpet you're walking on...
Can be a little disturbing. May be too much for some. Found a lot of old cat vomit places. They don't show up bright but, you just see this odd blob. Definitely a handy little device. Great size for travel. Can replace the battery too if you ever needed to.Biggest complaint is a design choice. I really want to question why they have 3 functions? If you use this, you have a single purpose in mind. I don't see any reason for there being a low light and a strobe light mode. It's a small feature that I find cumbersome. I suspect they just use a standard circuit board for flashlights and add a black light to that instead of a regular one. If you happen to use that functionality, fine but, I just can't find any reason why you'd want to use anything but the full power setting.
