Surviving the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto
The Wall by John Hersey is an important book by one of our most important authors post WWII. It is a fictional diary of a Polish Jew trying to survive the Warsaw Ghetto. The bravery of the people stuck in the ghetto and the cruelty of the Nazis made the book famous in its time, published in 1950. It is interesting also because Hersey himself was Protestant.

Incredible story of the Warsaw ghetto during WWII
For some reason, most of the reviews posted for this book are NOT really about this book. They seem to refer to a murder mystery or something in that vein. The point is that this is an amazing book, a work of monumental importance. It is grand in scope and gives the reader a first hand account of how the Nazis first filled the ghetto and then in small increments emptied and liquidated the entire ghetto. This story is completely true and speaks to our better natures of sacrifice, loyalty and love for all of mankind---the antithesis of the Nazi ethos.

One of my favorite books of all time
My original copy was yellowed and falling apart. Bought this as a replacement and love to read it as a reminder of the cruelty and bravery of mankind. Remarkable book.

For those interested in the Holocaust, this is a MUST READ book.
The Wall is a novel, based on history, about life in the Warsaw ghetto during World War II. It is a truly great book. In novel form it builds characters who one cares about. At the same time, without wallowing in horror or stereotypes of Jews as victims or Nazis as beasts, the book gives the reader an excellent understanding of life in the ghetto. Without going into a great deal of detail, it suffices to say that if the Holocaust and the Warsaw ghetto are topics that interest you, this is a "must read" book.

I did not read it.
As stated in the beginning of the book, the larger details are historically accurate but the more personal details are imaginary. I am more for history that recounts the actual events rather than a fictional account.
