Shockingly decent
I just bought this little thing because I started taking a mail order locksmith course. A vise is needed to do stuff like key impressioning, holding my cylinder holder for re-pinning, and to hold locks that I'm using to practice lockpicking. I bought a regular vise from a hardware store and just hand it sitting on the desk (I don't have a work bench) and I don't want to drill it into my desk. I happened to see this thing by Central Forge this morning at a hardware store and decided it was worth a $20 gamble ($16 actually, it was on sale).I didn't think it would stick very well with the vacuum but it was much stronger than I thought after I wiped the desk free of metal shavings and dust. I can actually lift the desk up off the ground and not have the seal break. I never would have guessed it would be that tight. The only drawback is that the swivel thing that lets you reposition the vise can come loose if you jerk it around too much (like I was doing trying to impression a key twisting back and forth). But I took a pipe wrench, wrapped the locking circle in a dishcloth, and then really tightened it as much as I could without trying to crack the plastic, and now that sucker isn't moving anywhere. If you need a hobby vise this is it. I genuinely am impressed that something this cheap works as well as it does.
