Not you average lighter...
Excellent torch, however let the buyer beware...This torch has a shelf life, and a terribly ill temper under the right/wrong circumstances. It LOVES lighting cigars, soldering and de-soldering, it lights candles and fireworks and BBQ grills with ease. Use it to shrink up shrink-wrap and shrink-tube and other heat-shrinking plastics. I sleep better at night with it underneath my pillow, and my toolbox is more complete and handy with one of these in it, too.It is well made and well designed, and when it works well, it works VERY well.Having said that, it will not tolerate being filled with regular garden variety butane (this will cause it to clog up and stop working at all), it sometimes ships with the regulator valve improperly set (way too high or not high enough) and can leak fuel with an improperly set regulator valve or if it gets dropped or damaged.IF your torch gets clogged (because it was filled with "dirty" butane) it can be unclogged by removing the two screws that hold the tip on and gently yet firmly removing the entire tip and then cleaning the tip in a sonic cleaner (ask your jeweler or gunsmith) and then replacing the tip and the two screws. Using VECTOR fuel may also help unclog a clogged tip.I only use VECTOR fuel. I hear Blazer makes a fuel for it but I have never used it so I cannot speak for it. I have used Ronson gas and other gasses and I have also owned many clogged torches. Use VECTOR and only VECTOR if a clogged torch that wont work is not for you.If the lighter arrives with the regulator valve improperly set, you can try to set it properly yourself but you will void the warranty if you do. I always just return those immediately to the retailer (amazon in my case). Regular dropping these things on the floor is pretty safe, but you do not want to strike it against the ground very hard as it is mostly just plastic.I ran over one with my car once and it made a "POP!" sound and was crushed.I have owned over a dozen of these things over the last 20 years or so, and I speak very highly of them and almost always have one in my pocket; that is how much I use and enjoy it. But I am not deluded into thinking that it can weld steel or even melt copper. It is just a humble pencil-torch after all, yet with a lifespan in my hands of 3-5 years(eventually the striker does stop working) I must admit they last a very long time and have dozens of uses.I love mine!

So far, an excellent product!
I am a cigar smoker, and this pencil torch works brilliantly! The single torch flame is very clean and accurate, and is extremely hot. The butane gas reservoir is huge, and lasts for what seems like an eternity compared to a regular cigar lighter. It's close to the same size of a cigar, so it is easy to carry and fits right in with the cigars that I'm smoking.I have only one complaint about this product. That is the adjustment for the flame level. The screw on cap comes unscrewed quite easily, and can be very annoying. You can tighten it down with needle nose pliers or something such as that, but if you need to make multiple adjustments, it's not engineered very well.A relatively small fumble when compared to the outstanding quality of this lighter.I love it!

Torch is Great, But….
I’ve owned one of these before. I use it primarily for installing shrink-fit electrical connectors on 12v wiring. My only beef is the length of delivery time. My clothes went out of style after waiting 2 weeks for it.

Worst Purchase I Ever Made
This is the worst purchase I have ever made on Amazon. I am a jeweler and use several butane torches. I needed a pencil torch so that I wouldn't ruin the more delicate pieces of jewelry that I make. I saw this torch and thought it looked like a good one. After reading the reviews, I decided to order one. Sure, there was a chance that my torch would be faulty, but I took that risk every time I bought a torch.I started having problems with my torch the day it came in. When I started pressing the different buttons to differentiate between the ignite button and the fuel intake button, I was shocked to hear a hissing sound. I clicked the igniter and to my surprise the torch lit up. It is hazardous to ship a torch with fuel. What if it had been left outside during the summer? I tried to put my uneasy feelings behind but things kept going wrong. Sure, the torch was great at first. It did everything I had wanted it to. Then I had to refill it. I use Blazer's triple refined butane fuel on all of my torches. I haven't had a single problem with it until this torch. None of the tips fit the fuel tank. I had one that appeared to fit it correctly. I discovered it didn't the hard way when my hand became coated with butane. It actually ate the skin off of my index finger, making it difficult to hold the torch in place. After 30 minutes of struggling to refuel it, I had enough fuel for two minutes. I eventually filled it up enough to last ten minutes. Then the worst malfunction I have ever seen in a torch happened. While I was using, it I heard a "click, click, click." I looked at the torch and realized the fire from the torch was going closer towards my hand with each click. I held it up and realized why. The igniter was clicking shooting the fire up towards me. I turned the torch off and it still went "click, click, click," and this time the fire was going towards the left and about to cover my fingers in fire. I blew it out like a candle and it stopped. I haven't turned it on since. The only thing worse than the torch was the runaround I got from Amazon customer service. I had owned this torch for 6 weeks when it malfunctioned. SIX WEEKS. I was told I was unable to return it since I had owned for over a month. My husband called customer service for me (this was right after I burnt the skin off my finger and almost set my hand on fire). After he explained what happened to me, they apologized and offered me a refund. I gladly took it. Then came the biggest headache of all time. The card I ordered the torch with had been canceled. And I had a different bank account. After explaining this to them, they gave me the biggest runaround I have ever had. "Call your bank. They can fix it." So I called the bank. "No. We can't do that. Call customer service." So I called customer service. "Call your bank." I eventually wound up with my refund. Granted, I was frustrated beyond belief, but I got my refund. And I'm never ordering a Blazer torch again.
