Yes. The top for the assembly will hold water when wanted.

Q: Since it goes down deep, is there anything you can mention as far as it maybe interfering with the garbage disposal below it?

I purchased this drain when I removed my garbage disposal. I suspect this is the wrong drain if you have a garbage disposal. Otherwise the product worked really well. I changed both drains and like the deep baskets. It was a fairly easy change.

Q: how do you attach the garbage disposal? Do you need an adapter?

This will not work with a Garbage Disposal. The garbage disposal comes with it's own mounting hardware that takes the place of the Waste Basket
