Colouring Fantasy - Colouring Book by Scot Howden

The media could not be loaded. “Colouring Fantasy” is my first coloring book by Scot Howden. I purchased it without being able to see the pictures inside but I did my homework and found Mr. Howden's artwork on-line. His Facebook page has beautiful renderings of the designs which were colored in the process of creating the book.I find his work, both original and in the coloring book, to be beautiful and ethereal. His line work is very light which keeps it from showing through too boldly and allowing the colors to speak for themselves.For the two designs I started with, I found myself heading towards lighter colors. I know that for other designs, I will go bold and bright. It just shows how varied and inspiring his work is. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite fantasy coloring books along with those by Jason Hamilton and Bennett Klein.The designs are a wide range of subject with some having more emphasis on fantasy than others. All of the designs of women have titles in the lower right hand corner. There are designs that have a Steampunk vibe, some of young women showing their artistic tattoos, a wildly “doodled” mummy, the cover art with a nod to Art Nouveau and Alphonse Mucha, dragons, a genie, fairies, a beautiful pirate, and more. There are 22 pages of full designs with two pages of enlarged elements to color. You can also color the title page which is a duplicate of another design in the book but on a different scale.This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing my various coloring mediums on the paper:22 full page titled Fantasy designs plus two pages of enlarged untitled elements for a total of 24 designs.Printed on one side of the pagePaper is thin, white, slightly rough (with good tooth), and non-perforatedGlue BoundDesigns do not merge into the binding and there is enough room to easily cut pages out if you choose to do soAlcohol-based markers bleed through the paper. Water-based markers spot through enough to mar pages below.Gel pens and India ink pens leave colorful shadows on the back of the page. India ink can leak through if you use multiple coats.Colored pencils work well with the paper. It has good tooth being slightly rough. I can use both oil and wax based pencils with it and get good results in coloring, layering and blending. Hard lead pencils dent through to the back of the page.I use and suggest the use of heavyweight paper or card stock as a blotter page under the page you are working on. It keeps seeping ink and dents from ruining the pages below.

Very beautiful drawings, making it a pleasure to color in! I've gotten every one of Hannah Lynn's books, and I love them, but this artist (Scot Howden) actually equals hers, plus he draws a nose, which makes him a step up in my opinion! The artistry is less child-like, too. The quality of the paper is about the same as every other adult coloring book on Amazon - fine for colored pencils with no bleed through, but I bought a coloring book (think owls, nature, tiny sections) specifically because it came with a plastic sheet to place behind the page that I'm working on, which saves tons of paper over time, instead of using several blank sheets to prevent bleed-through or pencil marks on the page behind. Then, if I do use markers, I can just clean the plastic protector with rubbing alcohol, and I'm good to go again! There are two sets of each drawing in this book (one whole set follows the original set - not 2 next to each other), which is great if you want to try different techniques. I also like the fact that the drawings go from simple and quick, to quite intricate. I highly recommend this book!

These pictures are lovely! Beautiful girls to colorI don't mind sexy women but I was surprised to see nipples on some of the women so if you are sensitive be aware of that!I love how these women are more realistically drawn. They have boobs that are more natural to the natural shape of their body. I enjoyed that immensely. Most drawings you get huge boobs no matter the size of the body.You get 26 pages to color on thin white non-perforated paper.They are singe sided.Of a simple design with little to no background so you can finish quickly.Great practice for skin and hair!If you use alcohol based markers like Copics, Prismacolor Art Markers, Sharpiers or Bic Mark-Its they will bleed through so use printer paper to protect the other pages.If you use water based markers like Tombow, or Crayola they should be fine unless you have a heavy hand then use printer paper behind your work just to be safegel pens and pencils work fine!

This book is absolutely gorgeous! You'll get 24 fantasy woman to color plus 2 additional pages to practice your coloring skills. A few of the pictures are a little more complex than the others. The one I colored below was one of the more simple pictures. The paper is the normal Createspace texture and I always use about 3, 110lb pieces of blank paper behind my picture while coloring. Scot is a great artist and I'm glad he shared his talent with everyone in this book. I am already looking forward to any additional books he puts out (crossing fingers he does just that). If you enjoy coloring beautiful woman, including mermaids, fairies, maidens, you'll love this book. I highly recommend it!

I just received this book today and at first the fine lines worried me. As I'm coloring my first page I am so very happy and appreciate the artistic opportunity afforded by Mr. Howden. Truly one of my most favorite books ever. So refreshing and light, extremely enjoyable experience watching the piece come to life! Super fun and easier than I thought. Cannot wait for his next book. I just wish that other artists would take note, hand drawn makes all of the difference! Order yours now if your on the fence, lovely lovely book!

I ADORE these drawings!!!! I WAS disappointed with the paper and the overall quality of the materials used to put it together. The drawings are so pretty though that I'm glad I got it. I'm ordering the other one too. :D I highly recommend this to anyone who appreciates the images more than the paper. It's not trash. I think I just expected something like Jasmine Beckett Smith. Je recherchais un color book, ou un artbook thérapie. Et je suis tombée sur ce petit bijou.Les dessins sont d'une très jolie finesse et originaux.C'est un plaisir que tu prendre du temps à colorier ces dessins. Cela change des mandalas.Cet ouvrage demande de faire preuve d'imagination, afin de rendre "vie" aux étranges créatures fantastiques que contient cet ouvrage .....A découvrir absolument et pour ceux qui aiment, il existe d'autres cahiers du même auteurs. Personnellement, hâte de les découvrir.

Love this book. I am finding it hard to put it down, and colour something else. Nicely done. Quality.

D'habitude, quand j'achète un livre il n'y a que quelques gravures qui me plaisent. Mais là, j'ai envie de tout colorier ! le choix est même difficile pour commencer !! je pense que je ferai ce livre complètement. Rapport qualité prix rien à dire. Le papier est de très bonne qualité et les impressions sont uniquement recto. Super sympa !
