This pin comes out of our antique collection and is from the 1970s. It is Zuni handmade and has the artist hallmark on the backside, F.W. Ondelacy. Fannie was married to Andy Ondelacy, the brother of Warren Ondelacy, and the sister in-law to Doris. A little confusing, but an important Zuni family genealogy. Fannie would be the Aunt and a teacher along with Doris, the mother, of legendary artist Alice Quam. Fannie has made a very important contribution to classic Zuni cluster jewelry, a style that is still made today. This large cluster pin is made with stabilized Kingman Turquoise. You can also wear this piece as a button, and believe it or not this is a common piece of jewelry here in the Gallup area, especially at ceremonials. A very good museum piece to add to your collection.
