This won't matter much if you are just driving a few posts but is a big deal if you are doing several all day long and you just have average strength. **Q: would this work to drive 1 1/2" chain link posts?** A: I believe it will fit over the post. The thing with chain link posts is that they will crush on the top when you drive them. I have always found an insert to put in the fence post tube to hit so I dont crush the tube.
