For beginners e.g. a child or one seeking a specialism in papercrafting. Also for low budgets.
It was below my experience level, but it's the book I needed when I started crafting in my teens decades ago. The book's projects and the expected equipment are for a cardmaker on a basic budget, such as a child, or a beginner who doesn't yet know which papercrafting area they want to specialise/spend on. All you need to get started is some coloured paper (old magazine pages will do), coloured pencils, cardstock, string, glue, scissors, ruler, commonly found embellishments (e.g. buttons) or 'found objects'.But importantly, the book gives ideas, with plenty of illustratiions too, so you can follow a project's "recipe" exactly or adapt it as and when it kicks off your own creative juices. That means the budget can be as low or as high as you like. There are implied aspects such as flow art and painting. But there's barely five words about die-cutting, hot-foiling, hot foam-forming; yet there's no need to mention them for the experience-level this book is aimed at. Those and umpteen more specialist areas can be considered later, when deciding whether to invest in more equipment and more materials. After all, it'd be off-putting if this book said "to make this next project, buy a die-cutting machine" when they cost £40 to £200! - what if you tried it and didn't enjoy die-cutting?!Great for someone with little or no access to the internet. Because nowadays the vast quantity and range of crafting tutorials and crafting advice are online - in websites, blogs, e-newsletters, YouTube videos including live-stream. This book is good for spending some hours away from the internet, or during a power cut when there'd be no internet (rural or remote areas always have power cuts; my area does quite often, being rural). I myself have the book near by bedside for something to look at when I can't sleep. There are projects covering occasions in a variety of cultures, e.g. Diwali. At the back are some of the project's black & white line-drawing templates for scanning and resizing. I haven't used any and can't comment on them.

Very basic - more for junior beginners
Bought to complement die cutting machines (manual and electric) which seemed to be implied on Amazon. Just one single sentence on die cutters: "Plastic templates and low-level cutters are also available for use with die-cutting equipment." - and that's it on die cutters! They are almost essential for anyone starting out with making more than two or three cards, and being able to create virtually any card, from the very simplistic to very intricate - not a job for scissors and school ruler!Plenty of ideas for card designs, which you can, however, look at on-line or by looking in card shops.Overall, somewhat of a disappointment - more like a 'Blue Peter' project book than an Adult's & Beginner's card making definitive guide. ('Blue Peter' is an excellent UK children's tv programme famous for home-made projects.)
