Most divers have used a slate underwater, but the problem with them generally is that they yellow with age (thus becoming harder to read) and force one to choose between a small footprint with little surface area on which to write and a larger footprint that becomes a pain to store when you don't need it during a dive. This device has fairly small footprint with a huge amount of writing surface. The pencil also writes easily and darkly on the off-white pages. A Magic Eraser will let you refresh a page if you need to, though there are so many pages that you may want to keep records, at least sometimes.In addition, the nylon case is obviously sturdy and its ring will allow the device to be securely attached to your rig or inside a pocket fit with a boltsnap.It shouldn't have been so difficult to find such a useful device. In this case I bought it elsewhere because I needed it quicker than I could get it through Amazon.
