Usually with cook books I just read the recipes. This book however is a funny, well written and full of interesting stories about the Middle East. The recipes are so descriptive I can taste them as I read them and the ingredients are all accessible. I am inspired to cook!

Great book.. so many new ideas

great book, recipes are very tasty, well described. Highly enjoyable to read the stories which are added to the recipes.

Often at a loss for what to cook for family meals when my vegetarian daughter visits but this has already provided me with several delicious recipes, unusual also in allowing me to avoid the eternal cheese fallbacks of most such books. The barley stuffed courgettes are particulalry to be recommended! Well laid out with clear instructions and endearing and interesting comments on ingredients, recipes and their sources, so it is a pleasure to browse as well as to use

Absolutely fabulous. Sally Butcher takes you through the Middle Eastern culinary world giving insights and history here and there. This is far more than a recipe book. I'm not vegetarian, I do love to have as many veg dishes as possible though and this book is perfect for sparking the imagination and daring to do something a little different.

Nice book, well written but vast majority of dishes appear to be side dishes, small plates etc Great if you have the time to make several but not meals

Lovely book, has become a favourite already. Good choice of recipes, easy alternatives if you can't find the ingredients, and we've had some lovely meals already. Added to this the book is fun to read and informative too.

I love the recepies, on the whole they are tasty, some like Harira are a little bland. I especially liked the writing and the stories that came with the recipes, it really took me to far away places.
