Q: Would this mat be any use attached under a worktop cupboard to deflect heat from a combination oven/microwave (not intense heat)

It would work until the cabinet reached the same temp as the silicone. I would use sticky back radiator reflector or adhesive chrome vinyl wrap. Hope this helps

Q: Can these be cut to size?

Yep. It sure can be cut to size. My two dogs love looking out the window. They have been taught to jump up and keep their paws on the silicone mat which has been cut in half. The mat comes rolled up. It has been on the window sill for nearly two years but doesn't lay completely flat (ref my original review of this product) but no scratche🤗
