The Dragon's Breath (Talon)

I have read historical fiction my whole life and very impressed when an author can create a series of books that depict a specific era not only with facts, but also with good storytelling. But this series, especially this book, is beyond words. It puts many other authors to shame in that the series traverses multiple cities across the Far East with technical detail while planting action and adventure at every turn. When I tell you this...take it to the bank, no other author has the skill or knowledge to understand this world better than this man. In this novel, as he wonders through ancient China, he intermixed not only Chinese facts, but also creatively intertwines Japanese culture and especially martial arts knowledge. Clever indeed...but also adds to the excitement. So strap in and enjoy the ride. Hats off to a brilliant writer that made my life a great deal happier.

The Talon series of books is for me an addiction. While waiting for The Dragons Breath, I read the whole series again. I have been to many of the places describes, in fact I was born in Malaya and The Dragons Breath brought back the sites, smells and the sounds of the jungle which brings back memories of the Ulu and Sakais; the rapid fire speech of the Chinese Towkes, eighteen course feasts, curries ,real ones. I am very impressed with the research the author does and which brings everything alive for me. I even like Durian but not the smell, if you have ever been behind a Durian truck you'll know what I mean. I can hardly wait for the next installment. Mr Boschert, thank you although my wife got irritated at my burning the midnight oil consuming your latest book. I would love to acquire a hard back of each book rather than read them on a kindle; one day.

Always my favorite author and series. I was amazed at the research and details surrounding the story. My favorite part was the rescue of Lord Meng followed by Sing's fate. Once I start on one of these books, I can hardly put it down until its finished. I usually go back and read it again at a more leisurely pace to enjoy the nuances I may have missed the first time around. Will keep reading until Talon grows old and gray! But then there's Rostam.....

Have enjoyed all of the Talon series for the action, adventure & general characterisation of the heroes & villians. This one is no exception. I occasional felt a little too bogged down in some of the detailed plant and general natural history descriptions, also some of the conversational elements seemed geared to a younger audience.Boschert is a good writer though & I will continue following Talon.

The latest installment of Talon reads like a James Bond novel in the 12th century where West meets East his travels across great deserts at his own peril across then across oceans. Seeing China and India for the first time, truly amazing! The battle scenes are spot-on. The intrigue is always there. Readers will not be disappointed.

Number 5 seemed like the end of the series as all the loose ends had come together and everyone had finally reunited. I was saddened by this, as these characters had become very important to all of us who have enjoyed Talon's adventures. Out of nowhere, the story goes on, and goes on into a part of the world that is as amazing as everything else about these wonderful works of historical fiction. Highly recommended!

A terrific read. Detailed, well researched. The adventurers Talon and his pal Reza experience are beyond even that of Marco Polo. His relationship with Ravan is well written and delightful. Heck, I wish I had such a loving woman in my life. Not to mention, she's a badass! I look forward to the next adventure. Perhaps he and Reza will discover America.

I absolutely love this series.... The length of each book is great... Love the detail and the picture development....The action is fantastic and the characters are well fleshed out.. Cant wait for #9!!!

This series just keeps getting better.This time with travels to India and China.Awesome scenery, great fighting and solid friendships made.Highly recommend this series. You won't be disappointed.

Talon fans will be delighted with this latest adventure which twists and turns from the middle east to Africa and then to China via Malaysia. His skills, some recently acquired, are tested to the limit as he and Reza deal with a variety of enemies, who are often not what they seem.
