This is a very effective tool for learning math. It’s a great manipulative for the younger children.

My sister-in-law bought this for her 3 year old son and he is very excited to use them, they watched a youtube video about them and so they decided to buy them and it is very worth the price, a very educational toy. They are well made, you have to use a sharpy to write in lines if you want to make the larger rods have equal parts for counting. It seems to make teaching young children math easy. for 3 year olds they can also be used as building blocks.

These days it seems that KINDERGARTEN children are being taughtaddition and subtraction plus other areas of math that to a 5 or 6year old mind are quite abstract... enter Cuisenaire Rods... I usedto teach Montessori, but did not have access to all of the beads, soordered these and have been working with my Grandson who took to themlike a duck takes to water... they really help and they give hima visual proof as he does problems on a page that seems to give himsome reassurance he is doing the problem correctly. I did start himout with the rods that link together but these are fine now that heknows which color is which number. This set surpassed my expectations. I had thought the plastic rods might be hollow: they are solid and have a nice feel in the hand. They don't come with much instruction, but the Internet is full of ideas about how to use them.Even better, our 9 year-old, who never met a math fact that stayed easily in his head, figured out right away how the blocks work and in five or so minutes, was making up his own equations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. He's very tactile and visual and as he worked a set of flashcards later, he went through them much faster and accurately than he ever has.We'll definitely keep on with these--should be very good for him to "see" his multiplication and division facts too.

These are such amazing things! These rods were made of plastic. My kids love doing math using these. I don't store them in my container as I ordered 2 sets and instead store them in an open lid tub. The container however is PERFECT for storing other things! The colors are true to the picture. I recommend this set to anyone curious about these rods or those that already know they love using them! These help my children learn math basic facts all the way up to algebra and they are only in preschool, 2nd grade, & 4th grade. These rods taught my struggling math child learning to do the addition and subtraction facts in her head, as well as multipication and some division!

These would have been a 5 for me if my son were able to tell how many units each rod was. After "4", it gets hard to tell. Perhaps having dashes in the rods would solve the problem?

A very nice set of Rods. We are using them to complement our homeschooling curiculum with our 4 year old son. So far they get used with the Cuisenaire alphabet materials, but they should be very useful too with the Miquon series. Our son also likes to use them for free play creating pictures, buildings, roads, etc. with them. A good value that should take care of all of our son's rod needs.

The container for keeping the rods together is an added bonus. The price was right comparatively, considering the number of rods.
